The rats are gone, but your dirty insulation is still up in your attic. So now what?

Don't rip it out yet. If they can still get back in, anything new you put down is more than likely just going to get ruined again. Seal the home up FIRST, THEN worry about the insulation.

Hey neighbors. Quick question. Did you already put the bug spray away for the year?

I get it. We had a couple cool mornings and it finally feels like fall. But mosquitoes didn't get the memo.

The latest preliminary state report (week ending Oct 3) still shows West Nile in mosquito samples across Dallas, Collin, and Denton counties. And on Oct 8, Dallas County reported its first West Nile death of 2026.

Not trying to scare anybody. Just don't quit too early. One cool night doesn't end mosquito season here. It usually takes a real stretch of cold weather.

I put together a short fall update for Sachse, Wylie, and Rowlett. It has the county numbers, why mosquitoes hang on into October, and the simple yard checks that matter most right now:

If you're still getting bit every evening and can't find where they're coming from, we're happy to take a look.

West Nile is still showing up in North Texas this October. See the latest preliminary county numbers and what to do around your home now.

Hey neighbors. As I am sure you are aware, North Texas is looking at rain quite a bit of rain today, tomorrow, and maybe this weekend… FINALLY! After a long dry stretch, that moisture is good for the lawn. It can also wake up pest pressure around Sachse homes.

Mosquitoes from standing water. Ants moving out of wet soil. Roaches liking the humidity. Rodents looking for dry shelter in garages and attics.

Quick walk-around after the storms: dump standing water, check foundations and garage gaps, and watch kitchens and bathrooms.

Heavy rain in Sachse and North Texas can push mosquitoes, ants, cockroaches, and rodents into yards and homes. Here is what happens, what to watch for, and what helps.

West Nile is still showing up in North Texas mosquito samples, and a few cities have been doing overnight sprays when traps come back positive.

A positive mosquito pool is a real signal, but it is not the same thing as a human outbreak on your street. Frisco planned overnight ground spraying for eight neighborhoods on the nights of Sept 26 and 27, weather permitting: Fairfield Estates, Lakes of Preston Vineyards, Parkside Estates, Plantation Estates, Preston Lakes, Preston Vineyards North, Shepherds Hill, and Stonebryck Manor. Dallas and Arlington also ran targeted sprays recently after positive samples. Denton County has reported five confirmed human West Nile cases so far this year.

What actually helps at home:

Dump standing water (buckets, birdbaths, gutters, toys, plant saucers)
Be careful at dusk and dawn
Use an EPA-registered repellent when you are outside
City spray helps in the mapped zones. It does not replace taking care of your own yard. If mosquitoes are wrecking your patio, Preferred Pest Management does mosquito control for North Texas homes, including barrier treatments and In2Care station options. Happy to look at your property and give you a free mosquito quote. No pressure.

We serve Sachse, Plano, Rowlett, Wylie, Murphy, and nearby communities.
