If you have pets or food animals, I guarantee that if you read this article, you will save money in some way, shape or form.
Dog f***s from cheap dog food continues to be a reason I find rats have moved into many attics. When I inspect clients’ properties for wildlife-related issues, I have a checklist of hundreds of things to look at. Food, water and shelter are all any animals want, including us – the most attractive being food and shelter. Dog p**py may not be attractive to you, but, if you were served a free, yummy-smelling and “healthy”, protein-filled buffet every day like clockwork, you may also quickly move next door or into that restaurant! (Insert your cringe due to my warped humor here)
While fostering greyhounds 20 years ago, I learned firsthand that rats love to eat dog f***s from cheap dog food. I had trained them to do their deeds in a specific corner of the property as to not have to pick it up as often or have it burn the grass. Nobody likes stepping on “landmines”. Their f***s continually disappeared! Who steals dog p**p?! Is that really a thing?! It boggled my mind. Was somebody coming onto my property and stealing my dog p**p?! …yes.
Soon, I noticed that huge rats had burrowed under the concrete slab of my garage just 2 feet away from ground zero. Mystery solved… but now what? My laziness and not picking up p**p on a regular basis was part of the problem, but, WHY exactly did the rats love that yucky smorgasbord? After experimentation and analysis, I confirmed that it was due to undigested proteins and junk fillers. Garbage in, garbage out and garbage results. The same concept applies to human diets.
Switching the dogs to a good quality food greatly reduced the amount the dogs ate due to it being better quality. Expensive dog food saves you money in the long and short run. Read that again. They eat less of it, but they shed less causing less house and vehicle cleaning and their p**py actually has a ton less scent as well! Most importantly, it makes your dog healthier. The smaller stools were not attractive to rats and insects anymore. Problem solved. The quality dog food also allowed me to be lazy about picking up p**p and composting it!
I proved this again with other dog breeds, cats, donkeys and food animals such as bulls, freemartins, chickens, turkeys and goats. All of my food animals and pets were also placed on very generous amounts of diatomaceous earth, aka, DE. The DE helped make all the different animal f***s even less attractive to everybody, including my dog. Yes, a fresh cow, goat, donkey or dog turd on a hot and sunny day is attractive to dogs, too. Dogs eat p**py out of litter boxes and other animals because they smell something yummy in there. The DE also made all f***s a lot less stinky and drastically decreased the fly population. I grew up working on a dairy farm in WI and I eventually went vegan because I first hand proved to myself and others that raising the above animals was not a sustainable practice for 95% of food animal keepers.
