Recieved a call today from a client who wanted a photo of a snake identified so he knew if it was dangerous or harmless! If it was dangerous he would have wanted it removed.
It was identified as Crotalus rubberensis!
A rubber rattlesnake someone had put on a shed roof to keep the butcher birds from nesting.
Client was grateful we saved him a callout fee and was happy that it wasn’t dangerous.

🐍 MEET THE EASTERN BROWN — AUSTRALIA’S SPEEDY LITTLE TROUBLEMAKER! 🇦🇺

Fast. Alert. Highly adaptable. And definitely NOT a snake you want to surprise! 😳🐍

The Eastern Brown Snake has earned quite a reputation — but there’s much more to this amazing Australian reptile than its scary headlines!

👀 Super switched-on: Eastern Browns are highly alert and rely heavily on their excellent vision to detect movement.

🏃‍♂️ FAST! When threatened, they can move incredibly quickly — which is why giving them plenty of space is always the smartest option.

🐭 Pest controller: Their diet includes rodents and lizards, making them an important part of our ecosystem.

🌿 At home in our backyards: They thrive in a variety of habitats, including farmland, bushland and urban areas where food is plentiful.

⚠️ And yes… they’re venomous. Eastern Browns are responsible for a significant number of serious snakebites in Australia. The best response to finding one is simple: stay calm, back away and give it space.

And remember…
The snake isn’t invading your backyard — you’re living in its habitat! 😉

🐍❤️ Respect them. Understand them. Give them space.

Want to see an Eastern Brown up close (without getting too close 😜)? Come along to one of our John’s Reptile Awareness Displays and meet these incredible animals while learning how to safely live alongside them.
