I have been seeing a lot of false information on social media the last few weeks about pest control and potential effects on wildlife.
I have also been personally targeted via DMs (which I delete) as I assume have other pest control services 🤔
I don’t know where this is originating from but someone/maybe more than 1 have a “Bee under their bonnet” Pun intended 🤔
My rebuttal is as follows and it will continue be be so ✅

In Australia, the primary killers of birds and bees differ significantly, driven by distinct invasive species, parasites, habitat pressures, and environmental factors.
What Kills Most Birds in Australia
• Feral and Domestic Cats: Predation by both feral cats and pet cats is the single largest direct killer of Australian birds, responsible for tens of millions to over 377 million native bird deaths each year.
Ground-dwelling and medium-sized woodland birds are at the highest risk.
• Habitat Loss and Fragmentation: Clearing of native vegetation—especially across south-eastern Australia—destroys nesting sites and food sources, impacting roughly half of all native bird species.
• Climate Change, Heatwaves, and Fire: Extreme heatwaves in arid and semi-arid regions (which cover 70% of the continent) cause mass mortality through lethal dehydration and hyperthermia, alongside catastrophic losses from intense bushfires.
• Infrastructure and Human Hazards: Collisions with vehicles, windows, and overhead power lines (which also cause widespread electrocutions of raptors like wedge-tailed eagles) claim millions of birds annually.

What Kills Most Bees in Australia
• The Varroa Mite (Varroa destructor): The invasive Varroa mite is currently the single greatest threat and killer of honeybees in Australia.
Since its initial detection in New South Wales in 2022, it has spread across eastern states and South Australia, devastating commercial and wild (feral) bee populations by feeding on bees and transmitting debilitating viruses like deformed wing virus.
• Pesticides and Agricultural Chemicals: Toxic chemical exposure—such as neonicotinoids, organophosphates, and specific nerve-disrupting pesticides like fipronil—wipes out hundreds of thousands of foraging bees at a time when they contact treated crops or contaminated environments.
• Pathogens and Hive Pests: Beyond Varroa, diseases and pests like American foulbrood (bacteria), chalkbrood, Nosema, and the small hive beetle routinely weaken and destroy colonies.
So..as you can see, the rhetoric being thrown around here is NOT accurate and no research has been conducted 🙄
Do I debate this wholeheartedly..Yes, Because I work in the industry and have done for MANY years, I was trained by a person that did (back over 25 years ago work hand in hand with Agriculture and the CSIRO) and also lectures at UQ , so I would suggest he and in fact myself know quite a lot more than some random post on Facebook that someone has found on other social media platforms 🙄
There are others in your area in the same Pest industry that probably don’t care what you think, but I do as this rubbish is exactly that RUBBISH 👍
Do you actually think that we want our children to grow up without bees and birds?
Our licenses are held by QLD health and they are extremely strict with the legislation and the responsibilities that we have in our hands!
Before you post this type of rhetoric, do your own research and due diligence to make sure you know what you are talking about before trying to demonize a whole industry that ensures you have safe disease free fruit and vegetables as well as other produce and meats on the table that feed your family and ensure you are all healthy and well!
