After a busy summer full of travel, jobs & all the chaos that comes with preparing for life after graduation, we finally got to meet with each of our 2026 Men in Black Scholarship winners & hand them their awards in person! 🎓🎉

Since we weren’t able to get everyone together for the breakfast we had originally planned, we put together a small care package to go along with each $500 award, including school supplies, a Starbucks gift card & a Men in Black charger keychain, so each award presentation could still feel like a celebration!

Congratulations to:
🎓 Erin B. from Lisle High School
🎓 Michael D. from Bolingbrook High School
🎓 Alyssa R. from Downers Grove North High School
🎓 Sarah G. from Downers Grove South High School

Reading their essays touched our hearts & reaffirmed just how much of a difference a small business like ours can make within its community.

Jason actually started this business when his daughters were around the same age as these students, so it feels full circle watching this year's graduates head into their futures just like they once did. Getting to be a small part of their journey truly means the world to us & we’ll be cheering them on no matter where they end up.

Thank you for supporting a small business that gets to support students like these! 🖤

Let's clear something up: earwigs do NOT crawl into your ears & lay eggs in your brain... That's an old wives' tale!

What they ARE doing is looking for moisture & dark spaces - think basements, bathrooms, & under mulch near your foundation.

With the humidity we've been having, don't be surprised if you start seeing more of them lately! Humidity brings them out & makes them more likely to wander indoors looking for a cool, damp spot.

While mostly harmless to people, seeing a lot of them can be a sign of excess moisture around your home, & they can still be a nuisance getting into cracks & crevices indoors.

A few tips to keep them out:
🔹 Reduce moisture around your foundation
🔹 Seal up cracks & gaps near doors/windows
🔹 Keep mulch pulled back a few inches from your siding

Seeing more earwigs than usual? Give us a call! We're happy to take a look & figure out what's drawing them in.

🚨 WARNING: EVEN BRIEF CONTACT WITH A RABID BAT CAN BE DEADLY 🦇

An 11 year old boy in Ontario woke up with a bat on his face. He swatted it off, his dad let it outside, & since there wasn't a scratch or bite mark to be found, they didn't think twice about it. Almost 3 weeks later, his face went numb, & things moved fast from there. Doctors eventually diagnosed rabies, & sadly, he passed away. (Full article linked below)

Bats aren't something we directly handle at Men in Black since they're considered wildlife, which requires different licensing in Illinois. Through our work in the industry though, we cross paths with wildlife removal companies regularly & the stories they have regarding rabid bats, especially ones involving young kids or a pregnant mom in the home, stick with you. When we saw this news, we felt we had to spread more awareness.

HERE'S WHAT MATTERS TO KNOW FOR EVERY HOUSEHOLD:
- A bat's teeth are so small that a bite or scratch can go completely unnoticed
- A bat will not always look or act sick if it's carrying rabies
- You do NOT need a visible wound to be at risk. Their saliva touching your eyes, nose, mouth, or an open cut is enough on its own
- Once symptoms start, rabies is almost always fatal & there is no cure
- If you get treatment BEFORE symptoms appear, it is highly effective at preventing the disease

If a bat has touched you, your child, or your pet, even briefly, contact your doctor or vet right away & follow whatever they recommend. Don't wait to see if something happens.

Please share this so more people know what to do in this situation. It can save a life.

This is basically every fly in the house ever 🤣

Fun fact: a fly's eyes are like a bunch of low resolution cameras working together which they use to follow motion & light (so the closed door looks exactly the same as the open one to them!)

This crazy heat is really starting to drive them inside right now so if you need a little extra help getting them out, call Men In Black!

Q Bar has supported Men In Black for years & when a business continuously shows support the way they do, we want to make sure we show up for them in return.

The Q Bar family is grieving the loss of Jon, a beloved member of their team. A GoFundMe has been established to support his children & family during this incredibly difficult time.

We encourage anyone who is able to donate, share, or simply keep Jon's family in their prayers to do so. Every bit of support makes a difference.

A celebration of life & fundraiser for his family is also being planned for Saturday, July 25th. We've reached out already but other local businesses interested in donating a gift card, service, or raffle item can reach out to Jacki at [email protected].

Our thoughts are with the entire Q Bar family. 🖤

To set the record straight, we’re coming directly from the heart to let you know: THIS is us. THIS is OUR family. THIS is Men In Black Pest Control.

Turns out some companies have been knocking on doors in our neighborhood telling our customers that Men in Black Pest Control has been sold. And when we heard that, we had to sit with it for a minute. Because it wasn't really anger we felt. It was something closer to heartache. The idea that you, the people who have walked alongside this family for so many years, might think we were gone.

Beyond just clearing up any confusion since that’s not true, we want to take a moment to tell you WHY that matters so much to us because we think you deserve to know who you are really calling when you call us.

Men in Black Pest Control was born from a father's love. A dad who had six children, six beautiful reasons to get up every single morning and refuse to quit, looked at his family one day and made a promise. Not a business plan. Not a pitch to investors. A promise. That he was going to build something with his own two hands that would take care of the people he loved most in this world. That his children would always have somewhere to belong. That no matter what life brought, his family would always have something solid to stand on.

He kept that promise. He built this company one day at a time, one customer at a time, one handshake and one front porch and one family at a time. He didn't have a safety net. He had faith. Faith in his family. Faith in his community. Faith that if he showed up with integrity and heart every single day, it would be enough because he started this business with an unshakeable belief that if you take care of your community, your community will take care of you.

And you have. You truly have since the very beginning.

Every time you called us, every time you welcomed us into your home, every time you referred us to a neighbor or a friend or a family member, you were investing in our family. And we have never once forgotten that. Not for a single day. You are the reason a dad's dream to make a better life for his children is still alive and still continuing after all these years.

That is why giving back to this community is not something we do for recognition. It is something we do because we genuinely do not know who we would be without you. It’s in the way we show up to every job. It’s in the way we treat every neighbor who opens their door to us. It’s in every act of giving we pour into this community because this community poured into us first.

When you call Men in Black Pest Control, you’re not calling a corporation. We’re a family, literally your neighbors down the street for some of you, & part of the community first & foremost.

Thank you for being part of our story. Thank you for trusting us. Thank you for being the kind of community that makes a family want to give everything they have just to give a little back. 🖤

With all our love & deepest gratitude,
The Gibbons family
