To set the record straight, weโ€™re coming directly from the heart to let you know: THIS is us. THIS is OUR family. THIS is Men In Black Pest Control.

Turns out some companies have been knocking on doors in our neighborhood telling our customers that Men in Black Pest Control has been sold. And when we heard that, we had to sit with it for a minute. Because it wasn't really anger we felt. It was something closer to heartache. The idea that you, the people who have walked alongside this family for so many years, might think we were gone.

Beyond just clearing up any confusion since thatโ€™s not true, we want to take a moment to tell you WHY that matters so much to us because we think you deserve to know who you are really calling when you call us.

Men in Black Pest Control was born from a father's love. A dad who had six children, six beautiful reasons to get up every single morning and refuse to quit, looked at his family one day and made a promise. Not a business plan. Not a pitch to investors. A promise. That he was going to build something with his own two hands that would take care of the people he loved most in this world. That his children would always have somewhere to belong. That no matter what life brought, his family would always have something solid to stand on.

He kept that promise. He built this company one day at a time, one customer at a time, one handshake and one front porch and one family at a time. He didn't have a safety net. He had faith. Faith in his family. Faith in his community. Faith that if he showed up with integrity and heart every single day, it would be enough because he started this business with an unshakeable belief that if you take care of your community, your community will take care of you.

And you have. You truly have since the very beginning.

Every time you called us, every time you welcomed us into your home, every time you referred us to a neighbor or a friend or a family member, you were investing in our family. And we have never once forgotten that. Not for a single day. You are the reason a dad's dream to make a better life for his children is still alive and still continuing after all these years.

That is why giving back to this community is not something we do for recognition. It is something we do because we genuinely do not know who we would be without you. Itโ€™s in the way we show up to every job. Itโ€™s in the way we treat every neighbor who opens their door to us. Itโ€™s in every act of giving we pour into this community because this community poured into us first.

When you call Men in Black Pest Control, youโ€™re not calling a corporation. Weโ€™re a family, literally your neighbors down the street for some of you, & part of the community first & foremost.

Thank you for being part of our story. Thank you for trusting us. Thank you for being the kind of community that makes a family want to give everything they have just to give a little back. ๐Ÿ–ค

With all our love & deepest gratitude,
The Gibbons family

Do you know the difference between a carpenter ant and a termite? ๐Ÿœ Here's what to look for around your home!

CARPENTER ANTS: Leave behind coarse, sawdust like shavings mixed with insect parts. It crumbles when you touch it and you'll usually find it near walls, window frames, or door frames.

TERMITES: Leave tiny, hard pellets that hold their shape (think coffee grounds). You might also spot mud tubes along your foundation or walls, and discarded wings near windows or doors in the spring.

If you find anything that looks like sawdust where there shouldn't be any, don't hesitate to give us a call!

PSA: Another data breach targeting 275 million STUDENTS๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ
Hackers just went after the college kids and CANVAS. What to do our family already does RIGHT NOW absolutely FREE

The simplest and easiest thing to do, even if you are not part of this breach is to FREEZE YOUR (and your kids) CREDIT. It literally takes only 5-10 minutes, could save you $10s of thousands and countless hours of your time trying to fix damage from hackers, and its free

Child identity theft can go unnoticed for years because minors and college students rarely check their credit. This prevents any new credit accounts from being opened

How to freeze:
Go to the websites of the big 3. Equifax, Experian and TransUnion
Sign up or login and place a freeze on your credit. Make SURE to hit all 3 of them

Need to apply for a credit in the future? Unfreezing is simple. Login, unfreeze each of them. You can do it manually or even set up a near future date to automatically freeze again.

We needed another car for the business last week, literally took 2 minutes to hit all 3 to unfreeze for 2 days

Nothing is 100%, but this is a darn good place to start!

Our family looking out for yours!๐Ÿฅฐ

๐ŸšจHANTAVIRUS PSA FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS

You may have seen the news this weekend. Three passengers have died and several others are ill following a suspected hantavirus outbreak on the MV Hondius cruise ship in the Atlantic.

We're not sharing this to scare you. We're sharing it because prevention starts at home, and keeping families safe from rodent related risks is what we do every day at Men In Black Pest Control. Hantavirus is rare, but it is serious, and it is very preventable with the right steps.

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€
โœ… FIRST, SOME REASSURANCE: The World Health Organization has stated there is no need for panic or travel restrictions. Hantavirus is not spread from person to person generally. It spreads through contact with infected rodents, specifically their urine, droppings, and saliva. Your everyday risk comes down to two things: keeping rodents out of your home & proper sanitation if they do get in.

โš ๏ธ KNOW THE SYMPTOMS: Early symptoms can feel like the flu: fatigue, fever, muscle aches, and headaches. If you've had possible rodent exposure and develop these symptoms, see a doctor right away and mention the exposure.

๐Ÿ  HOW TO PROTECT YOUR FAMILY:

PREVENT THEM FROM GETTING IN: Seal cracks, gaps, and holes in foundations, walls, doors, and garages. Mice can squeeze through a pencil width opening.
Store food in airtight, rodent proof containers and keep trash secured.
Reduce clutter and set traps regularly around your home.

IF YOU FIND SIGNS OF RODENTS, CLEAN UP SAFELY:
**This step is critical and is often done wrong so we want to provide you with recommendations provided by the CDC directly - link to step by step instructions provided in comments**

-Never sweep or vacuum dry droppings. This can send virus particles into the air.
-Open windows and air out the area for at least 30 minutes before doing anything.
-Wear gloves and an N95 mask or respirator.
-Soak droppings, nesting material, and surfaces with a 10% bleach solution (1 part bleach to 9 parts water) and let it sit for 15 minutes.
-Wipe up with paper towels, double bag all waste, and dispose of properly.
-Disinfect the area again and wash your hands thoroughly.

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€

If you've spotted droppings, gnaw marks, or any signs of rodents in or around your home, we've got you covered. When it comes to exclusion and clean up, our team has the training, equipment, and experience to handle it safely and professionally.

We know things are tight right now & everything is getting expensive. Gas prices, groceries, just everything... So we wanted to step away from pest control for a minute & share some recipes to help feed your family on a budget - because from its creation, Men In Black Pest Control has ALWAYS been about family.

Jason, our owner & father of 6, built this company from the ground up so his kids would have something to help pay their way through college & always have somewhere to land. To this day, most of the people you interact with over the phone, via email, online & sometimes even treating your home (Lauren, Margaret, Mandy, Megan & Xander) are one of those kids. This business continues to feed our families so we'd love to help you feed yours if possible.๐Ÿ–ค

Over the years, Jason was able to feed all 6 kids for under $600 a month & he passed that skill on to his children so today, his daughter, Margaret is sharing 2 of her recipes (haluski & egg roll in a bowl) that focus on 2 of the same main ingredients: coleslaw mix & yellow onion.

Right now, coleslaw mix is on sale for $.69 & yellow onion is $.74 at Jewel this week so we're using their online pricing (make sure to clip the coupons!) but you can almost always find these 2 ingredients for about $2 or less wherever you shop.

With 1 pan & 1 pot, these recipes can be made for ~$10-15 depending on what you add to it. These prices assume you're starting from scratch - because honestly some of us are - but a lot of the ingredients you'll likely already have at home, which will bring the total down even further. Feel free to adjust based on your personal preferences, family size, budget or dietary restrictions!

Does this guy look familiar? ๐Ÿ•ท Let's talk about what it is, when you can leave them be & why they're coming in.

What you're seeing is an orb weaver (a pretty common garden spider). Their eggs start hatching in spring and they're usually the ones behind those large circular webs you see covered in morning dew near your garden, porch light, or fence line. They are big, they look intimidating, and we completely understand why they startle people.

But here is the truth: orb weavers are outdoor spiders that rarely bite and have very little interest in coming inside your home. When outside, they're totally chill - that big spider in your garden is actually working for you by using that huge web to catch and eat garden pests like mosquitoes, flies, aphids and gnats.

Finding them inside your home, in your basement, or noticing them in large numbers around your foundation? That's worth giving us a call. Spiders follow their food source which means if spiders are getting in, other insects are getting in first.

Schedule a preventative spring treatment for your home by giving us a call & keep out what's drawing them inside!
