Foster Care: One Dog's Story of Change
https://amzn.to/4uDjlcg
Foster Care: One Dog’s Story of Change uses a dog’s journey to help explain foster care in a way younger kids can understand. Following a dog through change, uncertainty, and eventually feeling safe makes the topic feel a little less overwhelming and a lot more approachable.

What makes this book helpful is how gentle it is. It introduces the idea that transitions can be scary, but also that caring adults can help during hard times. For foster families, this can be a great starting point for conversations with younger children who may connect more easily through animals and storytelling than direct explanations. Simple, comforting, and easy for kids to relate to.

Homes with Heart Spotlight | May

This month, we are honored to spotlight Ashley and Sean Worley for their dedication to fostering! The Worley family has been fostering for several years, including the last two years with our agency, and it has been such a privilege for our staff to get to know both them and the youth they welcome into their home.

Ashley and Sean truly lead with compassion. They have consistently opened their hearts and home to children with significant medical and emotional needs. Their patience, kindness, and commitment never go unnoticed.

We are deeply grateful for Ashley and Sean’s servant hearts and the difference they continue to make in the lives of so many children and families. Thank you, Ashley and Sean, for all that you do! ❤️💙💛

Delly Duck: Why A Little Chick Couldn't Stay With His Birth Mother https://amzn.to/4k2Nu0n
Delly Duck tackles one of the hardest questions kids ask in foster care and adoption Why couldn’t I stay with my birth mother. And somehow it manages to do this without blame, fear, or emotional whiplash. Through the story of a little duckling, the book explains separation in a way that feels honest but not overwhelming. It doesn’t villainize. It doesn’t oversimplify. It just gently tells the truth in language kids can actually understand.
What works so well here is the balance. The story makes space for sadness and loss while still reinforcing that the situation was not the child’s fault. That matters. A lot. Kids carry so much quiet self blame and this book carefully removes that weight without making promises it can’t keep. It explains that sometimes adults can’t keep children safe and that other grown ups step in to help. No scary details. No sugarcoating. Just calm steady reassurance.
This is a really solid tool for foster parents adoptive parents and caregivers who want to answer big emotional questions without turning storytime into a therapy session. It opens the door for conversation while still letting kids stay kids. Delly Duck doesn’t try to fix everything. It just helps children feel less confused and less alone. And honestly that’s exactly what a book like this should do.
