Here's how to avoid an unwanted encounter:

As we head deeper into August, yellow jackets and other stinging insects are at their seasonal peak. Colonies are larger, nests are more defensive, and many homeowners begin noticing increased activity around their properties.

If you spot a nest, keep your distance and avoid disturbing it. Attempting to remove it yourself can quickly turn one sting into many.

Scarlett is a beautiful 4½-year-old pittie mix with a heart full of love and a personality that's sure to make you smile. She's convinced she's a lap dog, absolutely loves treats, and is happiest spending time with her people.

She's also:

🐾 Highly food motivated (treats are her favorite!)
🐾 Smart and eager to learn

🐾 Happy National Mutt Day! 🐾

Today we're celebrating one very special rescue pup, Franklin. ❤️

Before he found his forever home with Audrey, Franklin spent about a year surviving as a stray on the streets of Georgia. Thanks to the incredible work of Buddy's Second Chance Rescue, his story took a very different turn.

Today, you'll find him exploring the backyard woods, keeping an eye on squirrels and chipmunks, politely accepting treats (unlike Theo 😆), and helping Theo patrol the front window for any suspicious neighborhood activity.

Franklin is a reminder that every rescue has a story, and every mutt deserves the chance to have a happy ending.

A big thank you to Buddy's Second Chance Rescue for changing lives, one adoption at a time. 💚 If you're thinking about adding a furry family member, we hope you'll consider adopting. You never know, your next best friend might be waiting for you.

Seeing black-and-yellow stinging insects around your home this summer? They may look similar, but yellow jackets and paper wasps behave very differently.

Here's a quick way to tell them apart:

🟡 Yellow Jacket
• Bright yellow and black with a smooth, stocky body
• Builds enclosed papery nests, often underground or inside wall voids
• Highly defensive and commonly attracted to food, sugary drinks, and outdoor gatherings

🟤 Paper Wasp
• Longer, slimmer body with long legs that hang while flying
• Builds open, umbrella-shaped nests under eaves, porches, decks, and railings
• Generally less aggressive but will defend its nest if disturbed

Both can sting multiple times, so it's best to admire them from a distance and avoid disturbing active nests.

👀 This is what a fully developed bald-faced hornet nest looks like.

Our Service Specialist, Megan, spotted this impressive nest during a recent service visit. By late summer, a mature nest like this can be basketball-sized or larger and house hundreds of hornets.
