On September 11, 2001, window washer Jan Demczur was trapped inside an elevator in the North Tower with five other people. Using the metal handle of his squeegee, they cut through the drywall, escaped the elevator, and made it out of the building shortly before it collapsed.
Seeing this squeegee at the 9/11 Memorial Museum was a powerful reminder that even the most ordinary tool can become extraordinary in the hands of someone determined to survive.
Today, we remember the lives lost, the heroes who answered the call, and the countless stories of courage that emerged from an unimaginable day.
We will never forget. 🇺🇸
