During my visit to the UVHBA Parade of Homes, I toured the Highland Glen Manor by https://hawkstonehomes.com/utah-custom-homes/, where I met Andrew Patterson, the owner, and had a great experience. Andrew is passionate about his builds. We talked of textures, patterns, and themes, and how they interact with the homeowner's desires. His bio on their website is accurate: "Andrew focuses on creating structure, clarity, and consistency across every project." What I loved about the manor was the Library loft lookout with a metal-encased window door and surround perched over the sweeping iron ballastered staircase. How every room had a showcase in millwork, defining exclusivity. From every point of vantage, there is a sense of invitation to explore the space framed. What a treat! An added benefit was leaving the manor to see a laid-out development of their other builds, with homes of diversity and personal identity by Hawkstone. They certainly had me on the right tract!

During the UVHBA Parade of Homes, a beautiful home I saw was by https://www.facebook.com/RaykonConstruction, I met Devin Abe the Project Manager at Sunset Haven. What a fun guy to talk to, easy-going and welcoming, just like His project. What I loved about this house was the arch treatments that flowed throughout the house at walkways, brickwork, and cabinets, and tied the home to a unified theme. The Gables and glasswork were another remarkable treatment, allowing light to permeate the living spaces, making anywhere one stopped feel like what I call a "cat curl-up moment"! Bravo, Casey, on your accomplishment.

Our company attended the UVHBA Parade of Homes and saw 21 of the 39 homes. It was tremendously well thought out and executed. I will be mentioning what we found amazing about many of the builders that hit the nail on the head!

A new roof is one of the best times to replace an aging heat cable system before winter problems start.

This Bountiful, Utah project originally started as a reinstall, but after inspecting the existing system, the homeowner decided it was the perfect opportunity to fully replace the old heat cable while the roof was already being reshingled.

The previous cable system was no longer operating at 100%, and with a brand new roof going on the home, the customer wanted everything fresh, updated, and ready for Utah winters.

For this project we:
• Installed 5 separate sections of new self regulating heat cable
• Protected critical roof drainage areas
• Worked alongside the new roofing project
• Tested and verified the entire system after installation
• Customized clip spacing and layout for the roof design

One of the unique parts of this project was the combination of steep roof sections, large cable coverage areas, and gutter leaf screens that needed to work together cleanly with the new system.

This is a great example of homeowners protecting their investment the right way. Replacing failing heat cable while replacing a roof can help avoid future leaks, ice dams, and expensive winter damage later on.

Mountain homes with standing seam metal roofs need more than just good roofing. They need a plan for where all that snow and ice is going to go.

This Park City, Utah home was built with a standing seam metal roof in a heavy snow area near a ski resort. That type of roof looks great, but snow can slide off metal fast and put anything below the roofline at risk.

The home was also lined with half round gutters and circular downspouts, so the homeowner wanted to protect those areas from snow, ice, and the kind of buildup that can rip gutters off the house.

For this project we:
• Installed snow retention to help manage snow slides
• Added heat cable throughout the gutters

There’s a huge difference between building a mountain home that looks good… and building one that’s actually prepared for Utah winters.

This Huntsville, Utah project was a massive self regulating heat cable install on a newly constructed mountain home with both metal and shingle roofing systems.

The homeowner had standing seam metal slip skirts around the roof edges, which meant snow and ice would eventually slide off directly onto the areas below the roofline. They also had several roof valleys, crickets, and drainage areas where snow accumulation could become a serious problem over time.

To help protect the home, we:
• Installed self regulating heat cable in a zig zag pattern along the roof edges
• Protected all major valleys and cricket areas
• Installed cable in the gutters and downspouts
• Added protection to deck drain areas
• Verified and traced the electrical system
• Upgraded the system with GFEP protected breakers

One of the more interesting parts of this project was how steep and tall the north side of the home was compared to the south side. Being located deep in the mountains, this property will see serious snow buildup throughout the winter season.

One of the biggest advantages of a professionally installed heat cable system is the ability to expand and upgrade it as your home evolves.

This homeowner in Midway, Utah had additional gutters and downspouts added to the property after their original heat cable install was completed. They wanted the new roof drainage areas protected before winter became a problem.

At the same time, they also wanted the entire system upgraded so they could control everything wirelessly from their phones while traveling out of town and out of the country.

For this project we:
• Added new heat cable to the recently installed gutters and downspouts
• Upgraded the electrical control system in the garage
• Installed wireless system controls for remote access
• Ran new conduit to create an additional power location
• Fully tested the system after installation

One of the coolest parts of this project was building out the upgraded control system next to the breaker panel so the homeowners could monitor and control the system remotely with confidence.

Another clean install wrapped up in Daniel, Utah.

This homeowner wanted two major things solved before winter hit hard:

Prevent dangerous snow slides off the standing seam metal roof
Stop ice buildup in the gutters, downspouts, and roof pockets before it could create water damage

For this project, our team installed multiple rows of snow retention along with self regulating heat cable throughout the gutter and drainage system. We also added cable protection through the valleys and roof transitions where snow and ice like to collect the most.

One of the coolest parts of this install was the bank of pilot light switches in the garage, giving the homeowner clean and simple control over multiple roof zones.

Another clean install completed in Park City.

This homeowner wanted a better way to manage their heat cable system without relying only on a thermostat. The goal was simple: keep the system automated when needed, but also allow wireless control during those warmer winter days when snow isn’t present.

Our team upgraded the existing controller setup by retrofitting a WiFi-enabled control system into the current heat cable configuration. We replaced conduit to accommodate additional wiring, reworked the controller layout, and fully retested the system after installation to verify everything was operating correctly.

One of the biggest advantages of these upgrades is flexibility. During early spring or late fall, temperatures may be cold enough to trigger the thermostat even though there’s no snow buildup on the roof. With remote control capability, the homeowner now has the ability to override the system when conditions don’t require it.
