Until now, rolling stock has been faced with an inherent problem - how do you safely discharge air compressor condensate on the move?
Environmental regulations require the oily water generated by air compressors to be removed and treated to a hydrocarbon limit of less than 20ppm before discharge. Since trains are not able to discharge to drainage systems, untreated condensate is currently discharged onto the track, causing ground contamination.
But this this is all about to change with the arrival of the SEP60RAIL filtration system from SEPURA™. The principle is simple: oily water in; clean water out, with discharge levels of less than 5ppm.
