🏠🐦 A recent call out involved pigeons beneath the guttering above a bay window. What looked like “just a few birds” had actually turned into a full chill out zone for pigeons, with heavy fouling building up across the window bay roof and all over the ground below.

Aside from the obvious mess and smell, pigeon activity like this can lead to a surprising number of problems:

• Blocked gutters and overflowing rainwater systems 🌧️
• Corrosion and staining to paintwork, brickwork and roofing materials
• Slippery paths and entranceways creating slip hazards ⚠️
• Attraction of insects such as flies, carpet beetles and mites 🪰
• Nesting materials creating fire risks around cables and lighting
• Noise disturbance from constant roosting and activity
• Health risks associated with accumulated bird droppings and airborne dust

Bay windows are a favourite spot for pigeons because they offer shelter, warmth and protection from predators. Once established, they will keep returning unless proofing measures are installed.

Following a thorough clean, preventative proofing was installed to stop the area becoming the pigeons’ penthouse suite again 🏢🐦🚫

If you’re noticing fouling, feathers, gutter blockages or early signs of bird activity around your property, it’s always best to deal with it before the problem escalates.

Starting a new moth treatment this week at a stunning property. One of those homes where you almost forget you’re there to deal with a pest issue.

Moth activity had been quietly building behind the scenes, with early signs picked up in soft furnishings and carpets. It’s a good reminder that even the most well-kept, beautiful homes aren’t immune to textile pests.

Our approach here is a structured, multi-stage treatment:
• Detailed inspection to identify species and extent of activity
• Targeted treatment focusing on larvae hotspots
• Follow-up visits to break the lifecycle and prevent re-infestation

No shortcuts! Just methodical, professional pest management designed to protect both the property and the client’s belongings.

Early intervention makes all the difference. What starts as a minor issue can quickly escalate if left unchecked.

Looking forward to restoring this home back to full condition.

Another interesting call-out this week 🐀

We were asked to investigate suspected rodent activity around a goat shed, and it didn’t take long to confirm the issue. Clear evidence was present, including fresh droppings and noticeable gnawing. Both strong indicators of an active rat population.

Goat sheds provide the perfect environment for rats: shelter, warmth, and a steady food source. Once established, they can cause structural damage, contaminate feed, and pose a risk to animal health.

In this case, we implemented a targeted control programme using professional trapping methods, focusing on high-activity areas to bring the situation under control quickly and effectively.

If you’re noticing signs like droppings, gnaw marks, or unusual animal behaviour, it’s always best to act early before a small issue turns into a large infestation.

When it comes to insecticide treatments, results matter, but safety matters more.

In pest control, we’re happy to take on wasps, fleas, mites and everything in between… but somehow a pair of gloves or a respirator can feel like a pain in the ass!

Wearing the correct PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) isn’t just a box-ticking exercise. It’s a critical part of protecting:
• Your health from exposure to harmful chemicals
• Your customers from cross-contamination
• Your reputation as a responsible, professional operator

Too often in this industry, PPE is overlooked or only partially used. A mask without gloves, gloves without eye protection, or worse, nothing at all. The reality is, even low-toxicity products can pose risks with repeated or improper exposure.

The right PPE including gloves, respirators, coveralls, and eye protection ensures that treatments are carried out safely, professionally, and in line with regulations.

But beyond compliance, it sends a clear message:
👉 You take your work seriously
👉 You respect the environments you work in
👉 You prioritise safety over shortcuts

Proper PPE isn’t about looking the part like a hazmat extra, it’s about making sure you go home in the same condition you left. No lingering chemical exposure, no risks to your health, and no bringing anything back to the van (or worse, your family).

Stay safe. Stay professional.

🐝 Did you know? That old wasp nest in your loft or shed is probably empty.

At this time of year, most wasp nests you see are dormant. By the end of the season, the colony dies off and the nest is not reused the following year. The queen leaves to hibernate elsewhere and the rest of the nest is abandoned.

That means many nests people discover during winter or early spring are completely inactive and harmless.

However, if you’re unsure whether a nest is active, it’s always best to have it checked by a professional. Disturbing an active nest can quickly turn a quiet situation into a painful one!

If you’ve discovered a nest and want peace of mind, we’re always happy to help.

The recent coverage by Gazette Live about the rat issue in Middlesbrough highlights a challenge many towns and cities are currently facing.

Rodent control at a town-wide level requires a joined-up approach between local authorities, hospitality venues, facilities managers, landlords, and residents. When one link in the chain is reactive, the wider environment is affected.

We’re already working with a number of businesses across the hospitality and commercial sectors in Middlesbrough who value structured systems, clear reporting, preventative proofing, and rapid response when required.

Prevention is always more effective, and more cost-efficient, than crisis management.

As a local business operating on the ground every day, we want to work alongside councils, property managers, and business owners to raise standards, improve prevention strategies, and protect public health across our town.

If you’re a business owner or facilities manager in Middlesbrough and want to review your current rodent control measures, feel free to reach out.

The Middlesbrough resident has lived in the same property nearly all her life and says the rat situation in the Central and Newport wards are the 'worst' she has ever seen

Another successful solar panel pigeon proofing installation completed this week ✔️

Pigeons nesting beneath solar panels is something we’re seeing more and more across the North East. While panels provide the perfect sheltered spot for birds, the long-term effects can be costly:

▪️ Blocked gutters and drainage
▪️ Fouling and debris build-up
▪️ Damage to wiring
▪️ Reduced panel efficiency
▪️ Ongoing noise disturbance for homeowners

On this recent job, we installed a discreet, durable mesh system designed to prevent access beneath the panels, without affecting performance or invalidating warranties. The result? A protected system and a very relieved homeowner.

We work with domestic and commercial properties across the North East, using proven systems and processes to ensure every installation is secure, compliant, and built to last.

If you’re noticing bird activity around your solar panels, it’s always best to act early before a small issue becomes a bigger (and more expensive) problem.

⭐️ Your online reputation is often your first impression.

Before picking up the phone or filling in a contact form, people check reviews. Whether it’s Google, Facebook or industry platforms, potential clients want reassurance that they’re making the right choice.

Reviews provide:

✅ Trust & Credibility – Genuine feedback builds confidence. People trust other customers more than any advert.
✅ Competitive Advantage - Strong reviews can be the difference between winning or losing a job.
✅ Increased Visibility - Platforms like Google prioritise businesses with quality reviews in local search results.
✅ Valuable Feedback - Reviews highlight what you’re doing well and where you can improve.
✅ Social Proof - Consistent positive experiences tell a powerful story about your systems, service and standards.

For us in service-based industries particularly, reputation is everything. A 5-star review is someone publicly putting their trust in your business.

If you’re not actively encouraging satisfied customers to leave reviews, you’re missing an opportunity to strengthen your brand and grow sustainably.

Thank you to everyone who takes the time to leave feedback for businesses. It genuinely makes a difference. 🙌

🐀 Rat spotted in the garden? Don’t ignore it.

We were recently called to a domestic property after the homeowner saw a rat running across their back garden.

On inspection, we quickly identified active rat burrows along the boundary – clear signs that the problem wasn’t just a one-off visitor.

Rats will often burrow under sheds, decking, patios and fence lines, using gardens as a safe base before potentially moving closer to the property. Early intervention is key to preventing a much bigger issue.

✅ Full inspection carried out
✅ Burrow activity identified
✅ Treatment plan put in place
✅ Ongoing monitoring to ensure complete control

If you’ve seen rats in your garden, droppings, or signs of digging – act quickly. The sooner it’s dealt with, the easier it is to resolve.
