Called out to a customer today reporting what they thought was a bird stuck inside the chimney above the wood burning stove. After carefully laying my dust sheets, I began stripping down the stove. Base brick, side bricks, back brick, baffle followed by a secondary baffle plate but no sign of the bird. I could definitely hear scratching from above so I lit my torch, placed it into the stove then hey presto, down dropped an adult starling. I managed to delicately extract this inquisitive chappie and released him/ her outside.
All in a day's work for the Yorkshire Sweep 😀

Visted an existing customer who recently moved house. Her new house had six open fires to sweep. The worst one being this kitchen fireplace. We used our traditional brush and rods on all of them. It was certainly a good work out for Sub and myself. Who needs a gym 🤣🤣🤣

It's that time of year when birds, especially Jackdaws, are looking for nice warm places to nest. If you notice an unusual amount of debris, especially twigs in your fireplace you may have the beginnings of a nest. Sometimes you can hear scratching noises within the flue. If you think you may have a birds nest up there then stop using your fire immediately and give us a call. If your flue is blocked with a nest and you light the fire, you could be putting yourself at risk of Carbon monoxide poisoning.
Whilst we cannot interfere with an active birdsnest as it is unlawful, we can arrange a return visit later on in the year when the nest is empty, and safely remove it.
