Portfolio spotlight: Brentwood School Mews. ✏️

When Brentwood School wanted to explore the potential of an underused part of its site, we developed a concept that looked beyond the space as it existed and focused on what it could become.
Working through site analysis, concept sketches and layout options, we designed a proposal for two contemporary three-bedroom mews homes, carefully positioned to make the best use of the available space while respecting the surrounding buildings and preserving views towards the school's chapel. The scheme also included private south-facing gardens, parking, new tree planting and the potential for future expansion, subject to planning considerations.

We also explored materials and landscaping to ensure the development would feel at home in its surroundings, combining traditional brickwork and natural finishes with a contemporary architectural approach. 🌳

Projects like this are a great example of how good design starts long before planning applications and construction. It begins with understanding a site, recognising its opportunities and creating a vision that's both practical and sympathetic to its setting, and we hope that the students residing in the new mews properties will be very happy with their homes away from home.

Tom is a ARB registered architect and has built an impressive portfolio of projects and experience across London and the South-East from working in the industry for over 20 years.
