Galleries were created by Carpenter ants, but true to their name theif ants (Solenopsis molestra) moved in and took over. This is why positive identification is so important when treating ants, because though both ants Carpenter ants and Theif ants have completely different behaviors.

Evidence of Rodent activity shows up under UV light. Biological matter such as hair, urine, and blood flores when exposed to a blacklight. Pretty neat right.

Campontous Modoc fertilized queen.
After mating the queen chews her wings away because she no longer needs them. If you find one you have found a parent nest not a satellite nest. This is usually the result of major water damage, because carpenter ant queens and eggs need a really high moisture content to their environment to keep from desicating. Treatment along with removal of damaged wood is the only solution for this kinda of situation.

I did not know this until today, but a group of rats smaller than a colony is called a "Mischief". Thats pretty cool. So most people dont have a colony of rats in their crawlspace or attic but a much more reasonable sounding Mischief of rats. It almost sounds playful. Well thats my weird thought for the day. Everyone have a good weekend.
