A worm farm might seem like a small addition to an early learning centre. But for one child, it became the beginning of something much bigger.
At Wainuiomata โs early learning centre, a child named Nicholas became fascinated by the centreโs new worm house.
What began as curiosity quickly became something more. Nicholas watched, asked questions, explored what worms need to live well, and even gathered flower petals, leaves, and tiny bugs to create his own worm house.
Then he invited his friends to join in.
Through one simple hands-on experience, the children were learning about composting, caring for living things, teamwork, and kaitiakitanga - guardianship of the environment.
