This video of a wasp around its nest was taken by a Masters Pest Control Sydney technician whilst out on site.

These paper wasps build their distinctive umbrella-shaped nests from tiny fibres of chewed wood mixed with saliva, creating a papery structure, and play a valuable role in the environment by feeding on caterpillars and other insects.

They can however also become defensive when their nests are disturbed, so if you discover a nest and active wasps around your home or business, contact Masters Pest Control Sydney for professional advice and safe wasp extermination.

🪳 Shared Kitchens Can Be a Hidden Cockroach Risk — Is Your Workplace Protected?

Whether you manage an office, school, staff lunchroom, healthcare facility or commercial premises, regular professional pest management plays an important role in maintaining a clean, hygienic and welcoming environment.

Where multiple people share kitchen facilities, food crumbs, spills, food waste and moisture can create ideal conditions for cockroaches to thrive.

⚠️ German cockroaches in particular, are one of the biggest concerns in shared kitchens. German cockroaches hide in cracks, cupboards, appliances and other warm, sheltered spaces. They reproduce quickly, and once established, an infestation can be difficult to eliminate without a targeted professional pest treatment.

At Masters Pest Control Sydney, we help businesses and organisations take a proactive approach to pest management through:
✅ Scheduled pest management programs tailored to your premises.
✅ Inspections to identify cockroach activity and potential harbourage areas.
✅ Targeted treatments for German cockroaches and other common pests.
✅ Practical advice on food storage, sanitation, moisture control and prevention.
✅ Ongoing monitoring and recommendations to help reduce the risk of recurring infestations.

A proactive approach can help protect staff, students, visitors and your business reputation.

📞 Don't wait until cockroaches become a major problem. Contact Masters Pest Control Sydney to discuss a pest management program for your workplace, school or commercial kitchen.

🕷️ SPIDER SPOTLIGHT: JUVENILE BADGE HUNTSMAN – WILLOUGHBY

You never know what you might encounter on the job! 👀

While attending a client's property in Willoughby, our Masters Pest Control Sydney technician came across this juvenile Badge Huntsman spider.

Like other Huntsman spiders, Badge Huntsmans are active nocturnal hunters. Rather than building webs to catch their prey, they rely on their excellent eyesight, speed and agility to hunt insects. Just take a look at those eyes! 🔍🕷️

Despite their sometimes intimidating appearance, these spiders are generally shy and prefer to run away rather than confront people and are not considered dangerous to humans.

🕸️ Did you know, that Spiders play a valuable role in the environment by helping control insect populations naturally.

At Masters Pest Control Sydney, our experienced technicians understand local spider species and their behaviour. If spiders are becoming a concern around your home or business, we can help with professional inspections and targeted pest management solutions.

🪰 A CLOSER LOOK AT FLY ACTIVITY – WHY THE DETAILS MATTER

While carrying out a routine pest management service for one of Masters Pest Control Sydney’s major healthcare clients, our technician spotted an interesting fly. What caught his attention was a distinctive red-orange droplet on its abdomen — a small detail that prompted a closer look.

🔍 What is it?

Based on its metallic green-blue sheen, bristly body and wing structure, this fly appears to be a blowfly from the Calliphoridae family. Several species found around Sydney share these characteristics.

🔴 What is the red dot?

One possibility is a droplet of liquid waste being excreted by the fly. Flies process food in liquid form and can rapidly excrete waste, leaving small spots on surfaces where they land.

🏥 Why does this matter in healthcare environments?

Blowflies are commonly associated with decaying organic matter, and they can transfer bacteria from contaminated materials to food preparation areas, canteen surfaces and other frequently used spaces.

In healthcare facilities, maintaining a high standard of hygiene is essential. Even seemingly minor fly activity can be an indication that further investigation may be warranted.

At Masters Pest Control Sydney, we understand the importance of proactive pest management in sensitive environments, including hospitals and healthcare facilities. Identifying pest activity, investigating potential contributing factors and implementing appropriate control measures all play an important role in supporting hygiene standards.

🚨 WARNING SIGNS YOU MAY HAVE A GERMAN COCKROACH INFESTATION 🚨

Seeing one cockroach in your home or business can sometimes be more than just an isolated pest.

German cockroaches are highly adaptable, reproduce quickly with eggs hatching every 28 days, and often hide in areas that are difficult to see. By the time you regularly notice them, there may already be a significant population hiding nearby.

🪳 Homeowners, businesses should always look out for these warning signs:

• Live cockroaches – particularly around kitchens, bathrooms and other wet areas or where food is stored or prepared.
• Cockroach droppings – small dark specks or smears around cupboards, drawers, hinges and other harbourage areas.
• Egg cases – small brown cases containing developing cockroaches.
• A musty odour – larger infestations can produce a noticeable unpleasant smell.
• Cockroach activity during the day – German cockroaches are primarily nocturnal, so seeing them during daylight hours can indicate a larger infestation.
• Small cockroach nymphs – finding young cockroaches is a strong indication that breeding is occurring nearby.

German cockroaches commonly harbour in kitchen cupboards, appliances such as dishwashers, hinges, cracks, wall cavities, plumbing areas and other warm, sheltered locations.

🏠 Do you have any of these warning signs? Don't wait for the infestation to grow.

Masters Pest Control Sydney provides professional cockroach extermination for homes, apartments, strata properties and commercial premises. Our technicians identify harbourage areas and develop targeted treatment strategies to address the infestation at its source.

🐕🌧️ A morning dog walk got me thinking about pests and the weather!

After last night's rain in Sydney, I headed out with the dogs this morning and was greeted by that familiar humid feeling and plenty of spider webs across my local reserve.

It got me thinking about how changing weather conditions can affect pest activity, and a question our customers often ask, which is
Will the rain ruin my pest control treatment?

The answer? Not necessarily!

Many professional pest control products are designed to provide residual protection once properly applied and dried. However, heavy rain, surface conditions and product-specific instructions all matter, so external treatments sometimes need to be adjusted around the weather.

At Masters Pest Control Sydney and Masters Pest Control Central Coast, we do our best to keep residential bookings on track when it rains.

🏠 On a rainy day, we always aim to complete internal treatments and accessible areas included in your service, such as roof voids, sub-floors and if possible wall cavities, then arrange a return visit for external areas. When we need to return to complete the external treatment because of wet weather, there's no additional charge for that return visit. And always remember that your warranty remains in place to give you comfort.

El Niño conditions are often associated with warmer and drier weather across parts of Australia, but that doesn't mean we won't experience periods of rain and humidity. These changing conditions can influence pest activity, so it's worth staying prepared.

Our goal is simple: keep your home or business protected while ensuring treatments are carried out appropriately.

Don't assume your booking needs to be cancelled just because rain is forecast. Get in touch with our team and we'll work out the best approach for your property. 😊

🚨 GERMAN COCKROACHES – SMALL PEST, BIG PROBLEM! 🚨

This short video was captured by one of our Masters Pest Control Sydney pest experts during a recent inspection.

German cockroaches can hide in some of the smallest spaces, including kitchen cupboards, dishwashers, appliances, wall cavities, plumbing areas and other warm, protected harbourage points.

For restaurants, cafés, commercial properties, strata buildings and apartments, an infestation can quickly become a major nuisance and hygiene concern.

Our experienced technicians know where to look and, more importantly, how to target the source of the infestation with professional pest management solutions.
