👀 What do you see?

At first glance, this looks like a quiet paddock.

Through thermal technology, a very different story emerges.

Hidden within the landscape are multiple feral deer that would likely go unnoticed during a standard visual inspection. This is why early detection plays such an important role in effective pest management.

✅ Identify hidden activity
✅ Monitor population movements
✅ Support targeted control programs
✅ Protect agricultural and environmental assets

The sooner you understand what's happening on your property, the better equipped you are to make informed management decisions.

🦊 Spring Fox Awareness Post

Fox Cub Season is Here - Is Your Property Protected?

Spring marks the time when fox cubs begin emerging from their dens, and that means increased hunting activity across rural properties. Adult foxes are working harder to feed growing litters, often leading to higher pressure on lambs, poultry, native wildlife and ground-nesting birds.

If you're noticing: ✅ More fox sightings, including during daylight hours
✅ Increased activity around waterways and creek systems
✅ Tracks, scats or fresh digging near den sites
✅ Unexplained stock or poultry losses

Now is the time to act.

Early intervention during spring can help reduce breeding success and minimise fox numbers before young foxes disperse across the landscape later in the season.

At Davrac Rural Pest Services, we use advanced thermal technology to detect fox activity day or night, helping landholders protect livestock, crops and native wildlife.

Recent rainfall, abundant feed and ideal breeding conditions across the Central West have created the perfect environment for feral pig populations to thrive.

While many landholders are focused on the positive seasonal outlook, now is also the time to think about what those conditions mean for pest animal numbers in the months ahead.

Feral pigs are highly adaptable and can rapidly increase their population when food and water are abundant. The damage they cause goes well beyond rooting paddocks and damaging infrastructure. They can impact crops, native vegetation, water sources and livestock enterprises, while also posing a significant biosecurity risk.

The most effective feral pig control programs are proactive rather than reactive.

✅ Monitor activity around water points, crops and timbered areas
✅ Identify breeding hotspots before numbers explode
✅ Coordinate control efforts with neighbouring properties
✅ Implement control programs while pig numbers are still manageable

Waiting until damage becomes obvious often means populations have already established and expanded across a much larger area.

At Davrac Rural Pests, we're already seeing increased signs of feral pig activity across parts of the Central West. Landholders who act now will typically achieve better long-term results and lower control costs than those who wait until populations peak.

The current conditions are favourable for feral pigs. The question is whether you'll let them take advantage of them.

📞 If you've noticed fresh rooting, wallows, tracks or increased sightings, now is the time to start planning your control program.

Managing Kangaroo Populations in Sensitive Urban Environments

Wildlife management isn't always a rural-only issue.

Recently, Davrac Rural Pest Services was engaged to assist a regional golf club experiencing increasing impacts from a significant kangaroo population within a built-up urban environment.

While kangaroos are an iconic part of the Australian landscape, high population densities within managed recreational areas can create a range of challenges, including:

✅ Damage to fairways, greens and irrigated turf

✅ Increased maintenance costs

✅ Safety risks for staff, golfers and maintenance equipment operators

✅ Increased risk of vehicle collisions on surrounding roads

✅ Ongoing pressure on assets and infrastructure

In situations like these, success isn't simply measured by reducing numbers. It requires careful planning, risk assessment, stakeholder consideration and strict compliance with legislative and animal welfare requirements.

Our approach focused on:

• Detailed site assessment and population monitoring

• Identification of movement corridors and congregation areas

• Risk management within a public-access environment

• Careful operational planning around course activities

• Comprehensive documentation and reporting

The result was a measurable reduction in impacts on the golf course, improved safety outcomes and a more sustainable balance between land use and wildlife management.

Sensitive wildlife management projects require professionalism, discretion and a strong understanding of both compliance obligations and community expectations.

Every site is different. Every solution should be too.

At Davrac Rural Pest Services, we work with landholders, councils, recreational facilities and organisations across regional NSW to deliver practical, accountable and compliant wildlife and vertebrate pest management solutions.

🌿🦘 Riverina Wildlife Management Program 🦘🌿

Recently, we had the opportunity to assist with a wildlife management program in the Riverina, undertaking a sensitive and carefully planned macropod control operation.

This type of work requires a high level of professionalism, attention to detail and a commitment to humane, ethical outcomes. Working in areas where wildlife and people interact closely presents unique challenges, making careful planning and collaboration essential.

It was a pleasure to team up with Ian from Peck and Paws Pest Management throughout the program. Having experienced operators working together helps ensure the job is carried out safely, professionally and with the respect that these situations demand.

Thank you to Ian for his assistance and professionalism. It's always great to work alongside people who share the same commitment to responsible wildlife management and achieving the best possible outcomes.
