Don’t be shy.You can stare...
Umelusi/Mufudzi was the original wealth manager long before finance learned how to wear a suit.

Before stock markets, there was the herd and before investment portfolios, there was inkomo.
He knows every asset by name.
Which one carries strength.
Which one carries legacy.
Which one carries tomorrow.
The village sees cattle. He sees inheritance.

*Herdsman Visions* explores the quiet luxury of cultural wealth through ceremonial cowhide, sculptural tailoring, and the masculine elegance of the umelusi in his natural habitat.

Because fashion is not just clothing.
Fashion is memory.
Fashion is power.
Fashion is anthropology.
Fashion is art.

I almost had the most disastrous saturday....4AM. Driver outside.Model ready.Outfits ready.Cattle waiting in the misty hills before sunrise.Everything was set for the perfect shoot.

But sometimes the story tests you before it reveals itself. The photographer was nowhere to be seen.Calls unanswered.Phone off.For a brief moment, I thought about cancelling everything and going back home. But where I come from, cattle are not just cattle. They are wealth. Legacy.Identity.Memory.

The story was bigger than the setback and the culture deserved to be documented properly. So I picked up my Samsung S26 Ultra got my knees and shot the entire campaign myself with my assistant Denzel guiding the model. No production team, fancy lights, perfect conditions. No safety net.

Just instinct. Vision and culture leading the way.

What people see in these images is some avantgardefashion. But what I see is something much deeper.

Umfana wenkomo.
The herdsman.
The guardian of wealth.
A symbol of African masculinity, responsibility, and inheritance moving through a modern world.

And somewhere between the cold morning air, the sound of cattle moving through the dust and the pressure of catching my flight later in the day… I realised something:

People don’t always connect to perfection. They connect to truth. To real stories. They connect to authenticity and feeling. The real main character of this shoot was never the styling, the camera, or even the people involved.

It was the culture and once the culture showed up… nothing else mattered.

So there I was with my phone trying to film Vogue level content of uMelusi...Original Investment Banker and trusting that my basic editing skills and a large dose of the Holy Spirit will sort out the rest....

This is still a developing story,I am still editing the rest…I cried ,i laughed ...but my heart is content in knowing i have told the cultural stories I was sent here to tell....

“NDINI UMFUDZI. YIMI UMELUSI.” Before banks, there was cattle. Before investment portfolios, there was the herd.
In many African homesteads, inkomo was never just livestock , it was wealth, lineage, status, dowry, survival, memory and pride. The herd carried the future of the family and standing quietly behind that wealth was the herdsman....uMelusi...Mufudzi

Umfana wenkomo.Mkomana wemombe .He was and still is the guardian of the family’s living treasury.

While the village or family moves through ordinary life, uMelusi walks beside the true economy of the homestead. He knows every cow by name. Thenjiwe, Nduna, Shel'iNtombi. He knows their tempers, their habits, their strengths. Which one wanders. Which one leads. Which one fights. Which one births strong calves.

He is the observer, protector, strategist. The original Investment manager. The quiet king of Isibaya. The kraal.

NDINI MUFUDZI explores this forgotten masculinity through Afro-luxury tailoring, ceremonial cowhide and sculptural horn symbolism placing the herdsman back at the center of the cultural narrative. Not as a stereotype, but as a figure of discipline, sensuality, wealth and presence.

Photographed inside the Danga/Isibaya among the cattle themselves, the story interrogates why the village girls have always found the herdsman so irresistible.Perhaps it is because he walks with patience or that he understands responsibility and he carries the wealth of generations in his hands.
Is it that he knows how to lead without noise?

This Africa Day we are having visions of the Herdsman. We are imagining him not primitive or nostalgic but in timeless power.

The original Investment Banker.

If it doesn’t move your spirit, it’s just fabric. If it only moves your wallet, it’s just expensive. If it’s only pretty, but your heart stays still, it’s just decoration. But if it gives you goosebumps and takes you to another dimension, where you feel the presence of your ancestors and see the high priest in you that God calls you to be, then it’s identity. It’s legacy. It’s culture embodied in you.

This is culture month and culture is the history that stands with you, the memories that hold your gaze when you dare to look, and the dreams where past and future reach out, calling you to carry them forward.Show up as the queen you are...dont hold back🌟
