Through the Adopt-A-Classroom program, we connect sponsors to our preschool classrooms in Luzerne and Wyoming counties with the goal of promoting community engagement. By adopting a classroom, sponsors can help prepare children for kindergarten so they are ready to succeed in school and in life.

Adopt-A-Classroom sponsors can choose their level of involvement based on their interests and availability. Examples include:

📚 Reading a story
🎨 Leading an activity
🥪 Visiting for breakfast or lunch
🧤 Holding a donation drive

We recognize all active Adopt-A-Classroom sponsors on our website and social media. Each participating classroom also displays an Adopt-A-Classroom star with the sponsor’s logo above the door.

We've had a lot of calls about Cicada Killer Wasps lately! Here's some helpful information to put your mind at ease.

Cicada Killer Wasps may look scary because of their large size, but they're actually one of the least aggressive wasps you'll encounter.
✅ Here are a few facts:
• They are beneficial insects that help control cicada populations.
• Male cicada killers cannot sting. They may hover around you, but it's all for show.
• Females can sting, but only if they're handled or feel threatened.
• They are solitary wasps, meaning they don't live in large colonies like yellowjackets or hornets.
• They're only active for a few weeks during the summer.
🏡 What can you do?
• Avoid disturbing their burrows if they're in an area that isn't heavily used.
• Keep bare, sandy areas covered with healthy grass or mulch to discourage nesting.

‼️ ⚠️ If they're nesting near your front door, patio, or another high-traffic area, professional treatment may be the safest option.

👀 Have You Seen Any Spotted Lanternflies Yet?
We want to know! Have you spotted any Spotted Lanternflies this season? If so, tell us where you saw them in the comments! 📍

Here are a few facts about these invasive pests:
🍃 They feed on the sap of over 70 different plants, including grapes, maple trees, black walnut, hops, and many fruit trees.
🥚 They lay egg masses on trees, outdoor furniture, trailers, firewood, stone, and other smooth surfaces, making it easy for them to spread to new areas.
🌳 As they feed, they leave behind a sticky substance called honeydew, which can lead to black sooty mold and attract bees, wasps, and other insects.
🚫 They are not harmful to people or pets—they don't bite or sting—but they can cause significant damage to trees, vineyards, and agricultural crops.
👟 If you see one, it's encouraged to stomp it! Every spotted lanternfly eliminated can help reduce their population.
