I’ve gained almost 2,000 new followers over the last few months, so I wanted to say thank you for being here… and if you’re new, hi! šŸ‘‹

I’m Carissa—a hairstylist, salon owner, educator, and someone who has a habit of jumping into big ideas before I have everything figured out. šŸ˜‚ Somehow it always works out.

I’ve been behind the chair for 20 years and got licensed through my high school’s cosmetology program at 18. Since then I’ve worked in large corporate salons, educated, done platform work, sold everything I owned to live in an RV and spend two years in Northern California, opened my first salon suite during COVID, expanded into a larger loft, and eventually opened my dream salon, The Hair Hub.

Today, three years later, we have an amazing team, a licensed assistant growing into her own career, and here’s my soft launch announcement… we’re opening a spa next door this October! šŸ¤

A few things about me:
✨ I genuinely care about people and my clients.
✨ I’m weird, quirky, and completely okay with that.
✨ I’m a recovering perfectionist, and my mental health is so much better because of it.
✨ I love big transformations—blondes, vivids, gray blending, reds, brunettes, and lived-in color.
✨ Clean beauty and sustainability are a huge part of my salon because I have psoriasis.
✨ I’m a plant lover, have an iguana and two cats, and my partner Sean has been my best friend for 16 years.
✨ I recently lost over 70 pounds and completely changed my lifestyle.

If you’re here for hair education, transformations, business ownership, or just a little real life mixed in, I’m so happy you found me. Thanks for following along—I can’t wait to show you what’s next. šŸ¤

Just some of my thoughts and opinions on why so many elder hairdressers are burnt out

Gray blending is all about creating the illusion of less gray—not covering every single one. šŸ¤āœØ

For this guest, I used my Framar Dream Weaver combs to create super soft weaves, allowing her natural gray to stay part of the story while delicately dispersing blonde throughout. The result is a seamless, diffused blend that grows out beautifully.

When it comes to toning, I almost always reach for a combination of ash + violet… but here’s the little detail that makes a big difference: I usually add just a touch of gold. šŸ’›

Why? Because ash and violet alone can sometimes make gray hair grab a little too deep or flat. That tiny hint of gold keeps the tone bright, soft, and dimensional so the gray still has a beautiful light-reflective pop instead of looking dull.

It’s never about one magic formula—it’s about understanding how every guest’s gray behaves and making small adjustments to create the perfect result.

Would you rather blend your gray or cover it completely? Tell me below! šŸ‘‡

✨ Asymmetrical bixie + natural waves + a lived-in vivid 🌈

I love working with naturally wavy and curly hair. šŸ’›

If you don’t see a ton of curly content on my page, there’s a reason! A lot of my curly clients love treating themselves to a blowout when they’re in my chair because it’s something they don’t always get to enjoy at home. Others prefer to leave with their curls styled naturally—or even leave with their hair wet so they can do their own curl routine at home.

So while my feed might lean a little smoother, don’t let that fool you—I work with natural texture all the time, and I want to start sharing more of it with you. Because curls, waves, coils, and every texture in between deserve to be celebrated just as much as a blowout. ✨

Holy s**t. 😳

What a year of showing up for myself looks like.

I got home from my annual Delaware beach trip today and started scrolling through my photos. Then I had a random thought to compare them to last year’s.

I wasn’t prepared for what I saw.

My first thought was, ā€œHow did I let myself get to that point?ā€

A year ago I would’ve believed that thought. Today, I caught it.

I didn’t ā€œlet myselfā€ get there.

I was surviving.

I was depressed and didn’t even realize it. I was double booking clients, living on coffee, barely eating all day, binge eating at night, sleeping poorly, and never moving my body. I was completely burnt out.

Today, my life looks very different.

I rarely double book, I pack my lunch, drink more water, track my food, walk 5-7 days a week, and I’ve completely changed the way I talk to myself. Those small changes built momentum.

I also started a GLP-1 and hired my coach, Play With Purpose Retreats + Coaching . I thought she was going to help my business, but she ended up helping me change my life, and I can’t imagine my life without her now.

And here’s what I’m most proud of… I’ve been off my GLP-1 for three months and I’m still thriving. I’m still hitting my goals. I’m still losing weight. The medication helped me get started, but my habits, mindset, and lifestyle changes are what keep me going.

This transformation isn’t just about losing weight.

It’s about gaining confidence, setting boundaries, building healthier habits, and finally choosing myself.

If you’re just surviving right now, start with one small change. Then another.

A year from now, you might surprise yourself too. ā¤ļø

Let’s empower each other, I’d love to hear one thing you’ve changed recently that’s positively impacted your life? ā¬‡ļø share in the comments

Icy blonde ā„ļø

This was quite the transformation! šŸ¤

We spent 4 hours creating this bright, icy blonde with a full foil and extra-fine babylights through the temples, parietal ridge, and top for maximum brightness and the prettiest blend. šŸ–Œļø

The placement of those babylights is what gives her that extra pop of brightness around the face without making the overall blonde look flat. It’s those little details that make the biggest difference.

Then we took a few inches off to bring her hair back to life, refreshed her layers, and kept the swoopy bang and feathery movement she loves. ✨

Healthy hair + a bright blonde = the perfect combo. ā„ļø
