A young woman walked through the front doors with $5 in her hands. "Here, this is for your fund to help people do their laundry," she said. "I do my laundry at a laundromat closer to home," she explained, "but I know what it's like to struggle."
Because of her giving spirit and many others of you who stepped up, we are delighted to announce that we're able to fund an additional 70 laundry cards, each pre-loaded with $20. We also added another distribution location, the G**s Mills Food Pantry.
Things to know:
✅ To stretch the money on the card, we discount the washer price and provide credits toward free dries
✅ The cards are refillable
✅ They look like credit or debit cards so there's no stigma when using them
✅ People can use the cards anytime, including during our Happy Hour deal, 4-6 pm daily, which offers an additional $2 off any size washer
✅ $20 is enough to wash and dry 80 pounds of laundry, with some money left over
Where to get a card as of November 13:
- Aging and Disability Resource Center of Vernon County
- Bethel Butikk Thrift Store and Food Pantry
- Cashton Cupboard and Closet
- G**s Mills Food Pantry
- Kickapoo Area Food Pantry
- Living Faith Food Pantry
More to come soon, we hope.
If you'd like to help us keep this good thing going, we're accepting $20 donations (or any amount at all) to get even more laundry cards out there and refill existing ones. Call 608-638-8060 with a credit or debit card handy, mail a check to County Seat Laundry, 1218 N. Main St., Viroqua, WI, 54665, or stop in during our attended hours, M-F, 8-5, and Saturdays, 10-2.
We believe that no one should ever have to choose between groceries and clean clothes and bedding. In the past couple weeks, you've reminded us how, around here, neighbors always help neighbors. You inspire us to keep going. Thank you.
