With the sudden drop in temperatures, we want to make you aware of a few things you may see with your Hayward pool equipment over the next 24–48 hours.

1. Heat Pumps Will Not Operate in Cold Weather
Heat pumps require outdoor air temperatures above 50°F to function. When temperatures fall into the 40s and 30s, the heat pump will automatically shut off. This is normal and does not indicate a malfunction. Once the weather warms back up, the system will resume normal heating.
Gas Heaters will function as normal

2. Pool Pumps Entering Freeze Protection Mode
You may also notice your pool pump turning on and running at times you didn’t schedule. This is the system’s freeze protection kicking in.
The pump runs automatically to keep water moving.
This prevents pipes and equipment from freezing.
The system will return to your normal schedule once temperatures rise.

3. What You Need to Do
No action is required from you.
Please do not adjust pump speeds or settings during this cold-weather window, as the system is protecting itself by design.
