Coming back to a pool that's been on its own all summer?

Florida heat and summer storms are hard on pool water. Before you swim, look for cloudy or green water, a full skimmer basket, and a pump that sounds louder than it used to.

Clear water isn't always balanced water, so a water test is the best place to start. Our free pool health check covers it: a visual inspection and a water test. Weekly pool care is available in The Villages, depending on route openings.

Back in The Villages for the season? Your hot tub may need a little care before the first soak.

A simple place to start:
1. Test the water and balance it before anyone gets in.
2. Rinse the filter, or replace it if it's worn.
3. Check the cover for tears or extra weight from soaked-in water.
4. If the water sat untouched for months, a drain and refill is often easiest.

A few things worth checking while you sit:
- Does the seat depth fit you, and do your feet reach the floor?
- Do you like focused jets, a gentler massage, or seats you can change?
- Is it easy to step in and out?
