Difficult spa leak found and confirmed by multiple rounds of measurements. A temporary epoxy patch resolved the losses for the tile leak (see corners of hot tub waterline tile) and reinforcing the drains for a permanent repair on the spa drains.

We will meet the homeowner with the tile and plaster specialist next week to help decide on the best repair approach. I don't pretend to be a tile specialist, I can do a temporary patch but to properly fix tile requires a tile expert since tile has to be perfect as the water always finds level.

This one has been a puzzle, way more testing and measurements than have ever been done for a residential pool-spa combo. We found and fixed a major leak day 1, spa continued dropping and additional measurements performed to rule out a check valve/equalization issue. With every plumbing line to the hot tub plugged (and pressure tested twice with differnt plug types), overnight losses were at 1". Light has been fully sealed, triple checked.

They aren't all easy! We found the first leak in 15 minutes with dye and fixed it the same day. But this only cut the losses from 3" overnight to 1". There's a few theories working but we are going to the tried and true old fashioned leak testing because this one is definitely a puzzle.

An LLC is not a contractor license. Not every company, especially in the pool industry, claiming they are "fully licensed" is licensed. Many pool services claim they are "licensed" when they are in fact referring to a CPO (Certified Pool Operator) certificate that is a 14 hour chemical and pool equipment course that only demonstrates knowledge of maintaining a pool and isnt even required by Florida law for pool services ruled by the Florida supreme court since homeowners maintain their own pool chemicals.

A licensed contractor goes through a background check, credit check, work experience verification (4 years with 1 year as a foreman or 4 year college degree and 1 year as a foreman), business/finance and trade knowledge exams, and is legally required to have their contractors license number on all online advertisements.

A pool service/LLC and no contractor license besides a CPO "license" is not legally allowed to cut plumbing, do pool repairs, or make any equipment changes except for a filter.

Very rarely but in some cases, plumbing needs to be cut to test all lines accurately. The common situations that occur where plumbing has to be cut are:

-Old valves that leak and can't isolate lines

-plumbing configurations that don't isolate a non-testable feature like a sheer descent waterfall

-frozen ball valves that leak air (ball valves are never recommended since they will freeze and dry rot over time where diverter valves can be serviced and lubed until a valve body is compromised).

Fortnately, this pool is scheduled for a renovation and equipment upgrade so cutting out the old erosion fed chlorinator was starting that process ahead of time. The smartest and most thorough Pool Remodel companies get a leak detection before work is done- this identifies issues to fix during remodel instead of after when the new deck, tile and finish are already in place.

Confirming water level and overnight measurements.

Helpful tips:

1. Use a grout line in the tile or a mark inside the skimmer (grease pen, pencil, tape and sharpie can all be useful for measurements of fractions of an inch)

2. Make sure the water has settled since waves can cause the measurement to be off by a half inch or more.

3. If daily loss is high or anytime there is a leak, it is usually recommended to close the valve to the skimmer when available. Older pumps will not shut down and if air gets through the lines they can burn out.

Finished up some additional pressure testing and diagnostics (definitely a unique plumbing arrangement not found on newer pools) for one of the select few local commercial Pool Contractors/ Builders & Remodeling ( & Pool Service) companies Aquadoctor works with. Another one pinpointed. Not always the most obvious line- highly suspect returns but leak in Main drain confirmed. Pressure testing does not lie.
