**Meet Lucy Goosey!** 🪿💕

Apparently Lucy has another back-to-school outfit to show off! This week she showed up ready to practice her ABCs and 123s, pencil in hand and everything. 😂✏️📚

How has everyone’s first week back to school been? We hope it’s off to a great start!

My daughter took this week’s photo, and I think she captured Lucy’s back-to-school spirit perfectly!

Now that Lucy officially has a name, I have a feeling she’s going to be getting into even more adventures.

Happy Labor Day!

Cleaning has given me a whole new appreciation for hard work. Some jobs are seen, some are not, but they all matter.

Today is for the workers who keep showing up, doing the hard things, and making life run a little smoother for everyone else.

In October 1947 a quarter of a million acres of Maine burned, nine towns were wiped off the map, and most people outside the state have never heard about it. 🔥

That summer had been the driest on record. Wells went dry, the woods went to tinder, and by mid October there were fires burning all over the state at once. Between October 13 and October 27 crews fought roughly 200 separate fires. When it was over, 851 homes and 397 seasonal cottages were gone, 2,500 people were homeless, sixteen people were dead, and damage ran past 23 million dollars in 1947 money.

Bar Harbor got the worst of it. A fire reported on October 17 near a cranberry bog burned only 169 acres for three days. Then on October 21 the wind came up and it took more than 2,000 acres inside Acadia National Park in a single day. It ran to the shore of Frenchman Bay and took 67 of the great summer estates on Millionaires Row along with 170 permanent homes and five hotels. At one point the road out was cut and hundreds of people were evacuated by boat from the town pier. 🌊

Most year round residents rebuilt. The summer people largely did not. The cottage era that had defined Bar Harbor since the 1880s ended in about a week, and the town that came back afterward was a different kind of place, more middle class and more tied to the park. The forest that regrew on the burned ground came back in birch and aspen instead of spruce, which is why the foliage on that side of Mount Desert Island is so much brighter than it used to be.

Traveling Goose Tuesday! 🪿📚

With school starting back up, our little traveler decided this week’s stop needed to be somewhere with plenty of books.
She found herself checking out a local little free library and apparently came prepared with her own school supplies. 😂

Last week I asked for help naming her, and

I’ve narrowed it down to two favorites:
Gertie Goose 🪿

Cleaning isn’t always just about what we clean. Sometimes it’s about what we notice while we’re there. 👀

When we’re working in your home, we’re looking at areas you may not regularly see up close. If we happen to notice something that doesn’t look right, we’ll let you know.

Maybe it’s what looks like possible water damage starting on the ceiling… 💧
Or maybe it’s a TV mount that looks like it’s starting to pull away from the wall. 😳📺

We’re obviously not contractors or repair professionals, and we can’t diagnose the problem, but we can certainly give you a heads-up when we spot something concerning.
