From a House Cleaner’s Eyes… and Sealed Lips

We see far more than dust.

We notice the wedding ring sitting on the dresser… when it used to never leave your finger.

We hear the arguments through thin walls, and pretend we didn’t.

We see the single parent trying to hold it all together while unpaid bills cover the coffee table.

We see the mountain of laundry that somehow never gets any smaller.

We open the refrigerator and find takeout containers where home-cooked leftovers used to be.

We find empty wine bottles tucked under the bed that no one else was supposed to know about.

We notice the child’s height marks on the wall getting taller every month.

We see the hospital bracelets sitting on the bathroom counter.

We watch the guest room slowly become someone’s permanent bedroom.

We notice when one toothbrush becomes two…

…and when two quietly becomes one.

We see the dog bed that’s suddenly gone.

The sympathy cards.

The moving boxes.

The urn on the bookshelf.

The medications that weren’t there last month.

People think house cleaners scrub toilets.

Sometimes… that’s the easiest part of our job.

We walk into homes where people are surviving cancer, grieving spouses, battling depression, raising children alone, caring for parents with dementia, recovering from addiction, or simply trying to make it through another day.

For some clients, we’re the only person they’ll have a real conversation with all week.

Some cry.

Some vent.

Some apologize for the mess, when the mess was never what broke my heart.

The hardest part isn’t the dirt.

It’s hearing someone’s worst day, worst year, or worst chapter… and then seeing the physical evidence of that pain throughout their home.

You leave carrying pieces of stories that were never yours.

And yet, you’d never wish they had kept them to themselves.

This profession is so much more than cleaning.

We restore homes, but sometimes we restore a little bit of hope too.

It’s a weight most people never realize we carry.

And despite how heavy it can be…

Most of us would carry it again tomorrow.

Some days it’s the little things that remind you you’re exactly where you’re meant to be. 💛

Today I walked into a client’s home, and she had snacks and drinks waiting on the counter for me because she knew I was on my way. That simple act of kindness meant more than she probably realizes.

I truly have some of the most thoughtful, caring clients, and I never take that for granted. Running a small business isn’t always easy, but people like this make me feel so appreciated and blessed.

Thank you to every client who supports my business, trusts me in your home, and shows kindness in ways big and small. You are the reason I love what I do. ❤️

People see the vacuuming, scrubbing, mopping, and lifting but what they don't see is everything going on in your head at the same time....

What's the next house? How long will this one take? Do I have enough supplies? How's traffic looking? Will I make it to the next job on time? Did I remember to restock that product? Should I stop for gas now or later? Do I have enough clean microfiber cloths? Did that client say they wanted extra attention on the bathrooms? What time do I need to leave to stay on schedule? Will I have enough energy left for the last house of the day?

And while you're thinking about all of that...
You're also remembering gate codes. Keeping track of client preferences. Watching the clock. Planning the most efficient way to clean each room. Noticing things that need extra attention. Double checking that everything is left exactly the way the client likes it.

Cleaning isn't just physical work.

You're constantly planning, adjusting, solving problems, managing your time, and staying three steps ahead all day long.

Some days it feels like you're running a small logistics company while scrubbing a shower. 😂

Your body is working... your eyes are scanning... your brain is calculating...
and neither one gets much of a break. 😮‍💨💅

Happy Summer, everyone! I’ve been so busy serving my wonderful clients that social media has taken a back seat lately.

The good news? Business is booming! The bad news? My recurring schedule is completely full. ❤️

That said, if you’re planning a move, need a one-time deep clean, or have a special cleaning project coming up, reach out early. I can occasionally work those into my schedule with enough notice.

Thank you all for keeping this small business owner busy enough to forget she has a page sometimes. 😆
