NBCMA Announces Significant Progress in Navy PFAS Remediation Project: New Construction Schedules, Phase 3 Expansion Maps, and Navy Well Sampling - Patch

From the article: Jonathan Vito, NBCMA Executive Director, explains, "Every phase of this project represents another step toward ensuring that all families impacted by PFAS contamination have access to a safe, reliable public drinking water supply. We're committed to keeping residents informed every step of the way by providing updated schedules, maps, and project information as construction progresses. We also encourage residents who receive a well sampling notice from the U.S. Navy to participate, as those results are an important part of expanding future remediation efforts. NBCMA is grateful for the community's continued patience, cooperation, and support."

The United States Navy is conducting drinking water well sampling in a designated area near NAWC Warminster.

The Navy is conducting a private well investigation in a designated sampling area near former Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWC) Warminster. Based on our record review, we believe the drinking water consumed on your property or irrigation water used on your property, may come from a private well. If this is the case, we would like permission to sample your well water. The Navy is not seeking to sample water provided by a public (town) water supply.

This sampling will be at no cost to you. The chemicals the Navy is testing for are certain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which may be present in these private water wells due to past uses of the firefighting agent called aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) at former NAWC Warminster.

Navy PFAS Remediation Reaches Major Milestone as NBCMA Expands Public Water Access Across Northampton Twp
Phase 1 of the project is substantially complete. A public meeting will be held on June 25 to discuss further expansion projects. Patch

From the article: The Northampton Bucks County Municipal Authority (NBCMA) reports that a major milestone has been reached in the long-running effort to address PFAS contamination linked to Navy operations at the former Naval Air Warfare Center Warminster (NAWC), with Phase 1 of the Navy-funded public water expansion project now substantially complete. The project is in partnership with consulting engineer Pennoni and contractor Joao & Bradley, has connected dozens of affected homes to safe public drinking water while permanently abandoning impacted private wells.

โ€œReaching the end of Phase 1 is an important moment for our community,โ€ said Mike Sullivan, Executive Director of NBCMA. โ€œThis project represents years of planning, coordination, and commitment to ensure residents impacted by PFAS contamination have access to a reliable public water supply.โ€

Under the Navy-funded Phase 1 initiative, NBCMA constructed approximately 8,400 linear feet of new 8-inch water main infrastructure, installed 13 fire hydrants, and completed water service installations for homes identified by the U.S. Navy. In total, 87 residences were fully connected to the public water system.

โ€œAll of the homes connected under Phase 1 were authorized by the U.S. Navy, and each connection included the proper abandonment of impacted private wells,โ€ Sullivan noted. โ€œThis work not only protects public health, but also strengthens our regional water infrastructure for the future.โ€
