This week's Feature is Gene Hill Homicide is from Jacksonville, Florida, shared by one of our employees. Her Uncle was murdered and to this day, there have been no leads.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲:On 01/09/1993, the 45-year-old victim Gene Hill was found murdered on the side of the road in the 9600 blocks of August DR.
The victim's cab was later recovered in the Riverside area of Jacksonville.

According to OSHA, all occupational exposure to
blood places workers at risk for infection with
bloodborne pathogens.

Workplace accidents can occur in any
industry. Understanding your rights as an employee
and knowing your responsibility as an employer can
prevent disastrous consequences that can impact your
life, your family, and even your business.

If your employer requires you to clean or be
exposed to any biohazard, you should be given
protection to lower your risk of contracting an
infectious disease or experiencing another negative
outcome. Anyone with a risk of occupational
exposure to blood or biological materials has the
right to:

• Training on hazards they may be exposed
to, such as bloodborne pathogens (e.g. HIV,
Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, tuberculosis) in blood
and biological materials

• Free Hepatitis B vaccination series and
personal protective equipment (paid by the
employer)

• Training on appropriate personal protective
Equipment

• Information about OSHA standards, job
hazards, worker injuries, and workers’ rights

• Request that a dangerous condition or OSHA
violation is corrected by the employer

• File a complaint to OSHA without the possibility of
retaliation or other discriminatory acts

Advanced Bio Treatment has experience in all types of trauma and accident scenes and has the equipment and trained professional staff available at all times to deal with any situation.

On occasion, we are contacted to do a cleanup that doesn't involve some terrible tragedy. Sometimes we are called to restore a location after a natural event that takes place in an unnatural setting. Of course, I'm referring to the messy process of an unexpected arrival.

And I do mean unexpected.

The call came in on a Monday, as they often do, to our Baltimore, Maryland office. The caller identified himself as the father of a young woman who had just welcomed her first child into the world... in the bathroom of her one-bedroom apartment.

As we drove out towards the neighborhood, which was in an area known for its college students and youth culture, the mood was buoyant... sure we were heading to a job that would require careful removal of blood and other bodily fluids, but this incident had ended happily with a life created instead of a life destroyed.

We met the caller, as usual, in front of the address listed on the work order. It was a small apartment building just a few blocks from the local University. As we were led inside the elevator I turned to the older man to offer my congratulations on the birth of his grandchild. He smiled kindly and replied quietly that he was still getting used to the idea of being a grandpa now.

His daughter had not known, as wild as it sounds, that she had conceived a child during a passionate evening the summer after her sophomore year at school. Apparently, she didn't recognize the signs of pregnancy and according to her father, had not stopped her cycles nor had she gained any weight. Two days prior to being called, the father explained, his daughter had complained about unusual lower back pain so she had gone home to rest.

A Few Hours Later He Got News That He Never Expected...

One gentleman was on our back patio at the top of a ladder reaching through a second-story cathedral-ceiling-level window while the other installer was inside our home also on a ladder assisting.

The window cracked as they were removing it, which they assured me wasn’t unusual. But I thought it was odd that as they were removing the old fogged-up window, small shards of glass were detaching and falling onto the patio almost 20 feet below. The window was handed to the glazier on the inside, but he apparently didn’t have a good grip. That’s when I saw the gentleman inside on the ladder struggle to re-grip the cumbersome glass. It seemed like it happened in slow-motion. He lost his balance and began to fall with the glass he was attempting to carry down.

Both glaziers were injured, one of them very seriously, resulting in emergency services and extensive trauma scene cleanup. The man on the inside ladder fell almost twelve feet and suffered deep cuts along his forearms as he attempted to grip the falling glass. But it was the young man on the exterior of the home that suffered the more extensive injuries. He had apparently attempted to get through the window that was still surrounded with lodged several large shards of glass when he saw his partner struggling to maintain balance. He suffered severe lacerations to his abdomen and arms as he pulled was through the upper second-story window.

Instant Orphans From Blood Bath

Blood Cleanup: We are just finishing the cleanup here in Nashville, TN from an attempted double homicide. This was a pretty bad situation for the children of the family as both parents have been shot. The mother is hanging on but the father went instantly.

From what I hear the children were not home when the incident occurred so at least they don’t have the trauma of witnessing this to deal with in addition to the loss they are facing. We do a job not many can do or will ever want to do, but the job is necessary. Some individuals will enjoy this job because they seem to have some sort of enjoyment of the gruesome bloody messes, but for the rest of you, leave it to us!
