The third step for developing a successful lawn is a proper initial fertilizer treatment. It’s good to start with a quality fertilizer with crabgrass pre-emergent and some potassium and phosphorus. The timing for fertilization is based on the temperature of the soil. Your local lawncare company is very good at looking at these temperatures and timing it accurately.

The second step is to get your soil to the proper pH level since pH is crucial for successful lawns. Most cool season grasses thrive at a pH of about 6.2-7. If the PH is on the low end, it will be adjusted with a product like dolomitic limestone. If the pH is high, then aluminum sulfate can be added to lower pH down to the desired level.
