When money feels tight, we tend to watch prices closely. What’s easier to miss is how exhaustion quietly raises everyday costs.

When you’re worn down, convenience takes over. Takeout replaces cooking. Groceries get bought twice. Subscriptions stay active. Small fees slide by unnoticed. None feel expensive on their own—but together they add up fast.

A rough estimate:

—A couple extra takeout meals each week
—Food that gets replaced or tossed
—One forgotten subscription
—A few convenience or late fees

That combination can quietly drain close to $200 in a month, mostly because decision-making energy was low.

Money-saving takeaway: This isn’t about discipline. It’s about protection. Simple guardrails—easy meals on hand, quick fridge checks, and a once-a-month fee scan—keep tired days from turning into expensive ones.

My two cents: I’ve noticed most of my “why did we spend so much?” moments didn’t come from big splurges—they came from weeks when I was stretched thin. Now I try to set things up so tired me doesn’t get to make many money decisions. It’s not perfect, but it saves more than it costs.

How do you safeguard against these types of budget leaks?

It’s not winter anymore, it’s salt season. The roads are salt. The sidewalks are salt. Your car looks like it got rolled in a margarita rim. Every step sounds like you’re stomping through a family size bag of chips. PennDOT didn’t plow, they just seasoned the whole state like fries and called it a day.

And the people, even saltier. Nobody’s holding doors. Nobody’s waving you in. One wrong look anywhere and it’s a blood feud. Two weeks after the storm and nothing’s melting, it’s still 17 degrees, the wind’s slapping you in the face, and everybody’s attitude is pure road rage.

We’re not living anymore, we’re cured meats. Pennsylvania didn’t freeze. We've been salted.
