Sometimes wildlife just needs a helping hand.

This beautiful Cooper's hawk was found sitting dangerously close to the side of the road after what was likely a collision with a vehicle. We were able to safely secure him and get him to Sharon in Vicksburg, who specializes in rehabilitating raptors.

One thing many people don't realize is that birds of prey often survive these impacts, but they can suffer concussions that cause swelling around the optic nerves. For a while, they may be unable to see, leaving them vulnerable even though there aren't any obvious broken bones. With rest, proper care, and time, many of these birds make remarkable recoveries.

We believe wildlife deserves our respect. Not every animal needs intervention, but when one is clearly injured or in immediate danger, getting it to the right people can make all the difference. It's one of the many ways our community works together to help both people and wildlife coexist.

The good news is this hawk appears to be on track for a full recovery.

A huge thank you to Sharon for sharing her knowledge and giving this incredible bird the care it needed. We're grateful to have people like you looking out for Michigan's wildlife.

💥⚠️ What do a piece of duct tape... and a couple thousand yellow jackets have in common? ⚠️💥

More than you'd think..

Today was our first drywall cutout of the year at a home in Kalamazoo. By the time we arrived, the yellow jackets had already chewed through the drywall and started coming into the house. The homeowners had done the only thing they could think of in the moment—they covered the hole with duct tape.

It bought them a little time, but it also showed just how close the colony had gotten.

This time of year, yellow jackets are in full expansion mode. If they're nesting inside a wall or ceiling, they'll use whatever surrounds them—including insulation and drywall—as the colony grows. Once they break through, they're drawn to the light inside, and that's when a few yellow jackets in the house can suddenly turn into hundreds... or even thousands.

For us, this is usually when the season shifts. Every year we're reminded how much can be happening just a few inches behind a wall that nobody can see.

Sometimes the best part of the job has nothing to do with the job. 😄

We were down in the Stuart neighborhood in Kalamazoo wrapping up a bat project when we came across a couple of young entrepreneurs running a lemonade stand. We couldn't say no.

10/10. Would absolutely recommend. 🍋

They were ..polite, hardworking, and even surprised us with two beautiful bouquets of flowers. Absolutely made our day!

Now, before anyone gets the wrong idea... the picture is a little misleading. 😂 It kind of looks like I'm presenting Ernesto with a bouquet of flowers. I promise that's not what's happening. We're just terrible at taking selfies.

Supporting kids who are out there learning what it means to work hard, meet people, and build a little business is something we'll gladly do every chance we get.

Keep up the awesome work.. you definitely ended our day on a high note!

Conclusion of chaos ✨

After a valiant fight the yellow jackets are no more.. Not pollinators, not overly helpful, just kind of jerks.

I can't say that we've ever had a massive yellow jacket nest INSIDE of a ridge vent. Unfortunately there eclectic home location choice really backfired this time. As this was a key area that we needed to seal for bats 🤔.

Ever watch a mole dig? It's honestly hard to believe how fast they can disappear.

We hand-caught one the other day while it was actively tunneling. After taking a quick look at it, we released it in a nearby park. Even in your hands, they're incredible little animals—powerful front feet, almost no interest in what's happening above ground, and completely built for life beneath the surface.

The funny part is that most people have never seen a mole. They only notice the ridges and tunnels left behind and imagine the rest.

Working around homes reminds me how much life is happening just out of sight. Sometimes the biggest clues aren't the animals themselves—just the quiet signs they leave behind. Very cool little guy!
