Tragically, the case of Ms. Cristina Margarita Ramos Rodríguez (71)—affectionately known on social media as the "lady with the pretty nails"—took a tragic turn following the confirmation of her death and serious allegations of institutional negligence. A chronological account of the events follows: The Viral Rescue. On June 25, 2026, Cristina was rescued alive from the rubble of her four-story home in Playa Grande, Catia La Mar, following a devastating double earthquake in Venezuela. The video of her rescue became a global symbol of hope due to her incredible attitude; despite having spent hours trapped, she joked with rescuers about the dust and grime covering her face. In response, a rescuer complimented her, telling her she looked lovely and that her nails were beautifully manicured—bringing smiles amidst the tragedy. Disappearance at the Hospital. Immediately after being pulled from the wreckage alive, she was transported by a private Vital Salud ambulance to the Dr. Raúl Perdomo Hurtado Naval Hospital in Catia La Mar, as she suffered from a kidney condition. Although the medical staff on duty initially confirmed receiving her, the hospital later denied her admission, claiming she did not appear in their official records. From that day on, her family completely lost track of her and began a desperate search across hospitals, shelters, and morgues. Tragic Discovery and Missing Body. On July 31, 2026, after a tireless 37-day search, her family received the worst possible news. While reviewing photographs of the deceased at a makeshift morgue in Los Silos de La Guaira, her uncles formally identified her from a picture, recognizing her facial features, personal belongings, and distinctive nails. Yet, the mystery and anguish persist: her physical body remains missing. Due to the collapse, the high number of casualties, and the lack of centralized records at the temporary morgue, authorities lost control over the release of remains. Currently, her daughter Crisnel Mata and other family members are publicly demanding a formal investigation by the Scientific, Penal, and Criminal Investigations Corps (Cicpc) and the Attorney General's Office to locate and release Ms. Cristina's body, so that they may bid her farewell and give her a Christian burial.
