Two days before Halloween and one day before the Daytime Emmys, it feels like the right moment to look back at where this started.

My first project for The View was Halloween 2023: a Haunted Mansion episode, built as a love letter to the Disney ride. Madame Leota’s séance room, a portrait gallery, a banquet hall, and a cemetery for the “BOO Are You Wearing?” costume segment. Velvet, damask, candlelight, and a crystal ball at the center of it all.

I moved to New York 23 years ago as a theater kid with big plans. I didn’t picture daytime television, but this set turned into an annual tradition with an incredible team. (Last slide: me, mid-install, very excited about fringe.)

Tomorrow, The View is up for Outstanding Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design. Rooting for Mark Erbaugh and the whole art department. Thank you to Sarah de la O for saying yes to the strange ideas, and to Craig Cribas-Viechec for opening the door.

A Room of His Own

A bedroom with a skyline view and lots of potential.

We lined the entry in coffered wood so the room reveals itself like a stage, then layered in grasscloth, a custom runner, and a headboard and canopy we designed to turn the bed into a nook. Vintage globes, a hit of orange, and storage tailored to the room make it a space that can grow up with him.

A look back at Lunar New Year at The Peninsula New York.

The brief: make the hotel’s Fifth Avenue lobby feel like a celebration the moment the doors open.

We designed red lattice columns to frame the grand staircase, a dragon sweeping overhead, and a ceiling of lanterns floating in a canopy of blossoms.

Setting the Scene No. 1: The Arrival

Before the lobby at The Laurel existed, it was a render, a tray of samples and a set of drawings. Swipe from the idea to the real thing.

The decisions you don’t see are the ones that matter most — column seams lined up with the wall behind the desk, a soft radius on every corner of the reception desk, perforated metal chosen to catch the light without competing with the stone. And the things that changed along the way (goodbye, laurel wreath) are part of the story too.

Thank you to HMH Iron Design for bringing every one of these drawings to life.

Two homes inside one of New York’s most storied addresses.

With The Plaza Hotel closing in January for a four-year restoration of its facade, it felt like the right moment to look back at two residences I designed inside it.

The first is a pied-à-terre for a family who visits often and wanted to feel settled the moment they arrive — a restrained palette that lets the architecture lead, with bold art and layered texture giving every room its edge.

The second is a sanctuary for a young, growing family. It meets the Plaza’s grandeur with a lighter hand — color, collected pieces and a little play, elegant enough for the building and easy enough for everyday life.

Same address, two completely different stories.

First impressions are architectural.

At The Laurel, a condominium on the Upper East Side, I wanted residents to feel something the second the door opens — before the elevator, before the mail, before anyone says hello. So every surface had a job: stone lit from behind so the whole wall glows, perforated metal wrapping the columns, and a warm metallic ceiling that catches light all day and into the evening.

Back at 200 Lex as a 2026 Ambassador for What’s New, What’s Next — this year, celebrating its 100th Anniversary Edition. New York Design Center

I came to New York with a very clear picture of the kind of work I wanted to make, and only a vague idea of how I was going to make a life doing it.

Places like this became part of the answer.

For more than twenty years, I’ve walked these floors as a set designer, stylist, merchandiser, and now, with my own studio. The showrooms change. Many of the people don’t. And the best ideas are usually already here, quietly pointing toward what comes next.

That’s what I’ve always loved about this building — and what this day celebrates: a whole building full of what’s next.

Design is not a collection of objects.
It’s a sequence of moments.
Thresholds matter.
What you reveal—and what you hold back—matters more.
