I tested Ariel laundry detergent from 7 countries across 4 continents. Here’s how they ranked:

Japan — Snoopy Edition 60.0: Disappointing, but it does sanitize and wins cutest bottle.

Germany — Powder 72.7: Quite nice, probably a good whitening product when used as a soaking treatment.

Brazil — with Downy 10.6: Expected low due to the softener, but not this low. OMO also underperformed, something is off with those formulations.

England: Pods 81.7, Gel 95.3: The gel smashed it, second best overall.

Spain — Platinum Pods 85.9: Bronze medal.

Vietnam — Powder (top loader formula) 42.2/65: Designed for hand wash and top loaders; normalized against my front loader that jumps to ~65. Also has antibacterial claims.

USA / Mexico — 2x Powder: No. 1 top performer, inexpensive, but loaded with fragrance. Please make a Free & Clear version.

Tide or OMO next? Send me products from around the world via IG. Thanks!

This is how we restored a vintage wedding dress back to its former glory!!!

From tough yellow oxidized stains to looking brand new, the process involves: dry cleaning to remove body oils, wet cleaning, oxygen bleach soaking, hand-spotting, and a hydrogen peroxide finish.

The amount of work that goes into wedding dress restoration is insane, but so worth it. Next up: tackling dirty hemlines, and trust me, it’s even more impressive!

Part 5 of 5: Here is a MASSIVE laundry detergent haul from mostly Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, and China!

Cliff was kind enough to send 21 products from his trip to Asia which is far far far too generous. It was a real joy to get to unbox and take a look at all of them. I am excited to test them and see how they do.

Chanel rarely gets it wrong, but this time, they did...

Polyurethane was added to this coat’s fabric blend, likely to create a leather-like feel, but over time it’s broken down and started shedding white flakes. A tough reminder that material selection is everything when it comes to the longevity of a luxury piece.

After several rounds of dry cleaning, we’ve got it to a wearable state, but it’s not perfect. Quality doesn’t always mean forever.

As a dry cleaner, I see people throw out perfectly salvageable shoes all the time. This pair of black UGGs came in stained with food, road salt, and cat urine, and were stiff to the touch. Here’s the full step-by-step process I used to bring them back:

Step 1: Pre-treat with a neutral lubricant
Mix water and a little dish soap and work it into the surface to loosen up the larger stains, dirt, and lint. Rinse thoroughly.

Step 2: Enzymatic stain remover for tough stains
Apply an enzymatic cleaner to any stubborn stains, tamp it in gently, and let it sit for at least an hour. The enzymes need time to fully break down the stain, don’t rush this step.

Step 3: Machine wash on delicate
Wash with a wool detergent and a touch of fabric conditioner. For dark boots, I also added a small amount of powdered black dye to help restore lost color, this step is optional but made a noticeable difference here.

Step 4: Shape and air dry
Stuff with towels to maintain the boot’s shape, then let them air dry completely. Do not use heat.

Step 5: Restore the suede nap
Once fully dry, the suede may look a little shiny, that’s just the nap laying flat from the water weight. A quick rub with a suede stone, soft brush, or even a lint brush will bring the matte finish right back.

Step 6: Sanitize the lining
Spray the fur lining with a sanitizer to eliminate any remaining odors. The lining actually came out looking surprisingly great.

The end result? Not brand new, but absolutely wearable!

I don’t recommend this process for all leather types, but for UGGs specifically, it works really well. Hope this gives you the confidence to try it at home!

Does Biz actually deliver on its claim of an 80% cleaning boost? YES!!!

I tested it by running Amazon’s liquid detergent solo (scored a 48.6), then retested it with Biz added. Based on the 80% claim, I expected a score around 87.5, it came in at 83.8. Close enough to call it legit, and honestly impressive for a booster. I’m going to blame the fact that I used 1/4 cup instead of their recommended 1/2 cup, but still, excellent results.

Why does it work so well? Two heavy hitters: Enzyme blend that breaks down the root cause of stains. Then, powdered oxygen bleach (a.k.a. color-safe bleach), which corrects the color.

What I actually appreciate about Biz is that it stays in its lane. It’s not a detergent, doesn’t pretend to be, and it makes a specific measurable claim, which is rare when most products just say things like “works on 100% of common stains”.

A few notes: Powdered enzymes can irritate sensitive skin, be mindful of dermal exposure You don’t need it for every load, but it’s a solid thing to have on hand!

Overall: a genuinely useful addition to your laundry routine. Good work, Biz.
