Underground Leader Piping Cleaning in Old Saybrook, CT
When people think about roof drainage, they usually only think about the gutters. In reality, the gutters are only half the system.
Today we were in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, performing high-velocity water jetting on the underground roof leader piping for a large condominium complex. Over time, the system became clogged with dirt, leaves, mulch, and other debris and could no longer handle the huge volume of stormwater coming off these large roofs.
During heavy rain, that water had nowhere to go. It built up around the building’s foundation, entered through the window wells, and flooded the inside of the building.
We thoroughly cleaned the underground piping with high-velocity water jetting and restored the system to full flow. Now the rainwater coming off those roofs has a clear path away from the buildings instead of collecting around the foundations.
And this isn’t just a commercial property problem.
Some residential homes have sump pumps to help manage groundwater. Others rely heavily on underground leader piping to carry rainwater from the roof gutters away from the foundation. If that piping isn’t functioning properly, prepare for problems during a heavy rainstorm. Thousands of gallons of water can come off a roof, and if it has nowhere to drain, that water can end up around your foundation—and eventually inside your home.
Sometimes preventing a flooded building isn’t about expensive waterproofing or reconstruction. It’s simply about making sure the drainage system is clean and able to do the job it was designed to do.
