Before you call a technician, there are a handful of look-only checks you can safely make yourself in September. They cost nothing and occasionally solve the problem outright. Confirm the gas shutoff valve serving the fireplace is actually in the open position. If your model has a standing pilot, look through the window to confirm it is lit. Replace the batteries in the remote, and on many models in the receiver too, since dead batteries are a common culprit. Look at the exterior vent termination for nests, pollen, or crushed screening. And note whether the log set has shifted from where the manual shows it. If all of that checks out and it still will not run right, the next step is a qualified technician, not a video tutorial.
