Just in time for Halloween, here is something truly creepy from a job in Frisco. Yellow jackets had built a big nest underground, layer after layer of paper comb full of developing larvae. Our tech geared up in full protective gear, excavated the whole nest, and removed it from the yard so the family can enjoy the fall weather without getting stung. Rooftop rodent proofing in Anna! 🏠

Our tech is working along the roofline, fastening metal mesh guards with screws and sealant to close off gaps where rodents like to slip into the attic. Now that is a big wasp! This cicada killer turned up at a home in Frisco, and our tech held it up on his work glove to show just how large these things get. This is what rodent proofing looks like up close. At this Richardson home, the spot where the roofline runs into the brick wall left a gap that roof rats and mice could squeeze through to reach the attic. Our tech installed new metal flashing along the whole junction, bent to fit snug against the brick and the fascia and seated right down on the shingles. 🍂 Texas porch weather is finally here… and the wasps apparently got the invitation, too.

Noticing more buzzing around your patio this fall? Before you grab a spray can, it helps to know who’s visiting.

Spotted on a job in Princeton: a mourning dove nesting on the brick ledge right above a window! She tucked her twig nest into the corner where the brick meets the window frame, a cozy spot sheltered by the overhang. Mourning doves are protected under federal law, so an active nest stays put. Our tech inspected the area and walked through ways to keep birds off this ledge once the nest is empty, so next season this window stays clear. Here is a sneaky spot wasps love: right under an outdoor outlet cover. Our tech found this paper wasp nest on a brick wall in Plano, with several wasps sitting on the open comb and capped cells ready to hatch more. That little plastic cover gives them shade and shelter, so it is worth a quick look before you reach for that outlet to plug in fall decorations or yard tools this October. Not the kind of fall decor anyone wants! This week in Frisco, our technician found and removed a roof rat nest built from dry grass, leaves and twigs, with dead rodents still inside. Roof rats get busy building nests like this as the weather cools in October, and one nest can mean more activity nearby. Our tech bagged the nest and cleared the area so the homeowner did not have to deal with it.
