The leak that took years to show up.
Look close at that nail. That's a siding nail. It was supposed to bite into the 2x4 stud behind the wall. It missed the stud — and went into the copper water line instead.
Here's the thing: the moment it happened, there was no leak. The nail itself plugged the hole it made. Passed inspection. Walls closed up. Family moved in. Years went by.
But copper and steel don't get along. The second they touch, they start a slow electrolysis reaction — corrosion eats the pipe wall away a little more every season. Hot summers speed it up. Freeze-thaw cycles speed it up.
Eventually, the corrosion wins. The nail can't hold back the pressure anymore. Water starts spraying behind the wall.
That's when one of our trusted GCs called us in for a mutual customer.
Here's the part most homeowners don't realize: you can't see this coming. It hides behind siding, drywall, insulation. By the time you see a wet spot, the damage behind the wall has been building for a while.
📍 If your home is a few years old and you're seeing unexplained wet spots, hearing water running when nothing's on, or your water bill is creeping up for no reason — call somebody before it blows out behind a wall.
