🚨 SCAM ALERT FOR CLEANERS & CONTRACTORS! 🚨

I wanted to share this because I almost got caught in a scam today, and I don’t want to see another small business owner lose their hard-earned money.

Here’s how the scam works:

A potential “customer” reaches out asking for a cleaning job and wants a quote. They may sound completely legitimate and provide an address.

Then comes the red flag 🚩:

💰 They offer to send you a cashier’s check or check for MORE than your quoted price.

They’ll tell you to deposit the check, wait for it to clear, and then they’ll have you send the “extra” money somewhere else, pay another person, or purchase something on their behalf.

DON’T DO IT!

A check can appear to clear your account and the money can even become available, but that does NOT mean the check is legitimate. If the bank later determines the check is fraudulent, the money can be taken back — potentially leaving YOU responsible for the entire amount.

In my case, the customer wanted to mail a cashier’s check overnight and specifically asked for my mailing address and the name the check should be payable to. 🚩🚩🚩

I immediately knew something wasn’t right and ended the conversation.

⚠️ PROTECT YOUR BUSINESS:
• Never accept a check for more than the quoted amount.
• Never send money back from an overpayment.
• Never pay a third party using a customer’s check.
• Don’t let anyone pressure you into starting work before legitimate payment is verified.
• When something feels wrong, walk away!

We work hard for every dollar we earn. Don’t let a scammer take it from you.
