He’s going to hate all this attention, but….

Jason is a great boss, however what stands out most is that he’s a great family man. Anyone who’s spent time around him knows his family comes first, and that same care shapes how he leads. He sees the people behind the work, the families behind those people, and what matters beyond the job.

That’s a big part of why VK feels like a second family to so many of us.

This International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, the theme “Resilience Starts at Home” is a good reminder that many losses are preventable.

Some of the most common causes we respond to are also the easiest to catch early:
- Aging supply lines and appliance hoses
- Overloaded outlets and unattended charging devices
- Clogged gutters and poor drainage

A few minutes of attention now can prevent weeks of disruption later. And when a loss does happen, you’re not alone.

Fire Prevention Week is observed every October to mark the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. More than 150 years later, the message is the same: most home fires can be prevented, and a little preparation goes a long way.

Today, we're thankful for the firefighters and first responders across West Michigan who run toward the worst day of someone's life. Thank you for all you do!

What an exciting step forward for the department and the community it serves.

This new station will be more than just a building. It will be a place where dedicated first responders prepare to answer the call and help their neighbors when they need it most.

🔋 Stop using any battery that's swollen, hot, or damaged

This week is Fire Prevention Week, and the NFPA theme is "Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower."

Lithium-ion batteries power more of our lives than ever, and they're showing up in more fire losses at homes, schools, and businesses. A few simple habits reduce the risk:

🔴 Use the manufacturer's charger or one made for your device
🔴 Charge on hard, open surfaces, never on beds, or couches
🔴 Don't leave devices charging unattended or overnight
🔴 Keep charging areas clear of exits
🔴 Retire any battery that's swollen, overheating, leaking, or smells strange

At VanDam & Krusinga, we're there for families, schools, and businesses after a fire. We'd much rather help you avoid the call. If you manage a workplace or facility, this is a good week to check where and how batteries get charged.
