The River

The River Sharing Loads of God's Love! Helping women help themselves since 2004. For some women, The River is a stepping stone to self-sufficiency.

Serving women and children in our community through a variety of services and the practice of radical hospitality. Since opening our doors on October 4, 2004, The River has served over 1,000 women and children in need. Many are without support networks and are at severe risk of falling between the cracks into greater poverty, homelessness, and desperation. The River has several core programs developed to meet the basic and supportive needs of the women and children we serve. For most women, The River assists in meeting basic needs on a daily basis. Guests value The River for its comprehensive and unique programs and for the compassionate and respectful manner in which they are offered. We believe that every woman has gifts and strengths that she can build on to be successful. It is our hope that The River can bring new life!

Please drop off Halloween Candy & Treats by Wednesday, October 28, 2026 for goody bags for our guests. The River is located at 125 West Main Street in downtown Johnson City. Donations can be dropped off from 8 am to 3 pm. Help make our guests feel loved on Halloween! Thanks!

Sealable Sandwich Bags
Laundry Detergent PODS (not sensitive- we have a ton of those)
Coffee
Creamer (Powder)
Sugar Packets
Oatmeal Packets
Paper Towels

Donations can be brought to The River Monday through Friday from 8 am to 3 pm at 125 West Main Street in downtown Johnson City. Thank you in advance!

The Changing Lives From the Bottom Up Diaper Subsidy Program is on Wednesday, September 16th, from 9-12 at First Presbyterian Church Johnson City. Use the back parking lot behind the gate with the entrance on West Main Street. Be careful of families and kiddos from the FPC Preschool when entering and exiting. Follow the signs to locate the entrance. Remember- The River is open on Diaper Days with regular services.
