When buying a house never wirk with an agent who does not insist you get three major inspections.

The picture of the pipe clearly shows that the installer KNEW the inner liner was bad, he tried to hide it. As a result the combustion byproducts were venting outside the inner later of air cooled pipe (absolute garbage material).
When the chimney fire happened it melted all of the “fire resistant” styrofoam with 15” of the pipe, we were amazed that that didnt burn the house down. Also the fireplaces had 5” of blown in insulation on top of them which also was a fire hazard.
Both basement and second floor fireplaces with that creepy pipe were ripped out and new wood stoves are replacing them with the best ppie available.

As a 41 year veteran of the chimney and wood stove industry i have seen many a horrible event that was completely preventable. From catastrophic house fires to fatalities, this is nothing to mess with.
My wife and I are also now Volunteer Firefighters and really want to help people avoid such things.
Having said that we are trying to get a program going that will be absolutely free to the public. We can offer wood heating safety seminars that will give people information they can start using on day one to make their homes safer and their smoke emissions far cleaner using less wood.
I know, because i hear it constantly, “we know what we are doing” or “i have been burning wood longer than you have been alive” So why do we keep seeing chimney fires?? Who would benefit from a free seminar?? Here are some questuons for you to help make my point.

Do you know the moisture content of the wood you are currently burning?

How can you tell?

Whats the maximum moisture content for proper burning?

How does one obtain this?

Do you know what 3rd degree glaze is and how dangerous it can be?

We typically service over 1000 properties annually and i promise very few people can answer these questions. The answers are actually simple and can save your chimney, your home and your life.

The seminars begin with a “lighthearted” one hour presentation, then a coffee and munchie break followed by an “open mic” question and answer session……..this could be the best 2 hours you can invest ever.

Again, there is absolutely zero cost, nothing to purchase, no sales pitch…….just solid information to help people avoid high utility costs and devastating house fires
