Today Operation Kindness: Onslow County was recognized at the United Way of Onslow County Golden Lightkeepers Awards! This recognition serves as a testament to our dedicated service and the positive impact our program has made within our community.

Operation Kindness was established in 2023 as a free, extreme home cleaning program entirely funded by donations and in kind partnerships with small, locally owned businesses. Our dedication to the community is shown through our loyal, long term volunteers and their willingness to tackle even the harshest of conditions. Restoring houses back into homes in a single weekend, regularly investing 12+ hour days physically and so much more mentally and emotionally. This program would not be possible without their dedication, loyalty, and strength.

We invested almost 100 labor hours into this home today between 10 volunteers! We will be back tomorrow to finish cleaning, organizing, and making the home ready for the family to return.

I am always so amazed at what we get done with these operation kindness projects. It’s such a transformation and the sense of relief these recipients have afterwards is so worth whatever mental and physical exhaustion we might experience after putting in long hours to get it done.

I don’t like to brag so I don’t share these posts to say “look at me! I’m such a good person! Give me all the praise!” No. I share them because it helps bring awareness to mental illness, intellectual or developmental disorders, chronic illness, etc and also to show how a community can come together to make a difference. The volunteers of this program donate their time, services, and money to help a person or family in need. I’m so proud of the work we do and so grateful to have amazing people to work with on these transformations.

If you don’t have anything nice to say, please keep that to yourself. You never know who may be struggling and seeing your comments too afraid to reach out for help. Please be kind and compassionate as our team has been. 💓

For Giving Tuesday we are asking for dog food donations to help keep The Blessing Shed stocked through to the new year. As mentioned before, our cat efforts are focused on TNR but do accept cat food donations if given and give to TNR colonies and rescues. Items listed include dog food as well as the materials needed to bag and label the food to be placed in the shed.

Help our school reach our goal!

We have been busy! Many thanks to Rhodestown Volunteer Fire Department for approving our installation of a microchip scanning station at the old firehouse. This will be the first available in Richlands and we have hopes to install more! This will mean if you find a loose dog or cat you will be able to take the animal to the station and scan it for a microchip and then ideally alert their owners. This will help reduce wait times when waiting for animal control to come scan for a chip and hopefully reunite owners faster. Please make sure you have your animals microchipped!

We will make a post once this installation is complete and include a how-to video.
