Exterior inspection is just as important as the interior. Subterranean termites can cause expensive damage in a short period of time.

Finding them outside near a structure signals immediate treatment if not currently protected.

I found these in pressure treated wood adjacent to the garage. Although I don’t treat for them myself, I was able to refer the customer to a local company, and the home was subsequently treated.

Old abandoned water supply lines, a/c condenser lines, and any old piping used to either supply or drain water can be an incubator for American (and other species) roaches.

I seal these as a courtesy to the customer, and it makes what I do easier. An $8 tube of caulking can save a myriad of call backs, and extra services.

German roaches can be a belligerent species when they infest a home. They like to crowd into dark, tight cracks, and crevices. This is a built in feature, and is called “thigmotaxis”. It keeps them comfortable to reproduce.

Being that they love to get deep inside small areas, control can be difficult for those who’ve never dealt with them.

The video I’m posting shows that good intentions by the tenant have made the situation worse. They set off repellent aerosol “bombs” in the home which caused the roaches to spread from the kitchen to other parts of the home.

Also, the egg sac (ootheca) remains unbothered by any type of pesticide. It’s a safe encasement.

The end result is lots of dead adults, but an abundance of nymphs (babies) that were protected inside the ootheca.

This one of the reasons you see so many dead nymphs after I treated. The dark spots are dead nymphs.

A tip for homeowners. Trimming shrubbery away from the home can lesson the chances of an ant infestation.

Ants will use tree branches and limbs that touch the structure as a bridge to gain access.

In this short video there are two ant species; compact carpenter ants, and crazy ants.

I’ve since cleared the home of these ants.

I’ve mentioned before how crucial inspections can be in order to implement pest control protocols.

This home was being serviced by a local provider. The customer was unhappy, and called me.

It took all of five minutes to find the carpenter ants, and you can’t miss the water in the pan from the air handler. The pic is in the comments.

Home also had an American roach issue that I addressed, and corrected.

It’s so important to inspect as much of a structure as possible—-which is what I do.
If I can’t move through an attic due to size constraints, I’ll tell the customer. It’s that easy.

German roaches. An extremely annoying pest that once established, reproduces rather quickly.
Just one female can hatch 400+ nymphs (baby roaches) in her lifetime. Those nymphs take 50-100 days to become reproductive adults.

Treating them can be difficult. But hey, that’s what I’m here to do—-treat, and eradicate belligerent pests.

Many make the mistake of “spraying” OTC products that contain repellents. This may kill some, but it pushes the roaches into deeper areas, and may cause them to spread to other parts of the home rather than the kitchen.

It can be particularly tough to control big headed ants due to their very large, and interconnected colonies, and their penchant for nesting adjacent to slabs, around/in trees, and underneath anything that might be laying on the ground.

Colony populations can number in the millions, and they are exceptionally adept at burrowing underneath foundations to gain access to a structure.

When treating, the idea is to be as thorough as possible—-literally leave no stone unturned.

I always love a good challenge, and have extensive experience dealing with this species.
Unfortunately, these ants can be misidentified due to being dimorphic, or two distinct sizes.

The smaller minor worker is often mistaken for a ghost ant which requires a different approach.

Yet another crawl space that wasn’t inspected by the prior pest control company.

Not one, but two air handlers draining into the crawl.
It’s since been fixed/repaired diverting the drainage to the exterior of the building.

So many issues can come from the crawl space. It’s important that it’s inspected, and treated.

This particular issue is a very very slow leak from the main drain line where it meets the PVC piping, plus older piping that was left open after redoing the water supply lines.

I treated, sealed the pipe with caulk, and informed the owners of a potential plumbing issue.
