Gutter guards are not maintenance free.
We found this heavy lichen, moss, and organic buildup covering the gutter guards on a home. When the screen becomes clogged like this, rainwater may run over the gutter instead of flowing through it.
With the mature trees and shaded rooflines common around Inverness, gutter guards still need regular inspection and cleaning.
Homeowner tips:
• Watch for water spilling over the gutter during rain.
• Look for plants, moss, or buildup along the roof edge.
• Check gutters after heavy leaf and seed-drop seasons.
• Do not pressure-wash guards.
• If the mesh is heavily clogged or deteriorated, removal and replacement may be more practical than cleaning.
Gutter guards reduce larger debris, but they do not eliminate maintenance.
