At last night’s City Council meeting, a proclamation signed by Mayor Jack Tibbs was read in recognition of Drinking Water Week in Eufaula. Following the reading, City Council President Wes Register joined Eufaula Water Works General Manager Kevin Heartsill for a photo with the signed proclamation.

The proclamation recognizes water as one of our most vital and valuable natural resources and highlights the essential role Eufaula Water Works plays in the health, safety, comfort, and quality of life of our community.

Drinking Water Week is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of safe, reliable drinking water and to recognize the dedicated water professionals who work each day to protect, maintain, and deliver this essential service.

Eufaula Water Works is grateful for the City’s recognition and continued support as we celebrate the value of drinking water and the people who make reliable water service possible for our community.

Eufaula Water Works is proud to recognize Drinking Water Week, May 4–10, 2026.

Drinking Water Week is a national observance that highlights the essential role safe, reliable drinking water plays in public health, quality of life, economic strength, and thriving communities. It is also an opportunity to recognize the dedicated professionals who work every day to protect, treat, maintain, and deliver one of life’s most vital resources.

To help kick off Drinking Water Week 2026, Eufaula Water Works, in partnership with the Barbour County - Alabama Extension and Wallace Community College, hosted the Groundwater Festival on Friday, May 1.

This annual educational event gave students the opportunity to learn more about groundwater, conservation, source water protection, and the importance of protecting the water resources we all depend on. Groundwater is a vital part of our community’s daily life, and events like this help connect classroom learning with the real-world work involved in providing safe, dependable drinking water.

We are grateful to our partners, volunteers, educators, students, and sponsors who helped make this year’s Groundwater Festival a success. Your support helps strengthen water education, community awareness, and the next generation of water stewards.

This achievement marks a major milestone in their two-year apprenticeship journey, a program made possible through the joint collaboration of the Eufaula Water Works, Alabama Rural Water Association, and the Alabama Office of Apprenticeship.

Over the past two years, Floyd and Alexandrea have committed a vast number of study hours and hands-on training in the field to gain the knowledge and experience needed for this certification — a requirement for graduating the apprenticeship program.
