So I messed up and forgot to check the power supply at a home. Bought a 220v pump and then plumed it all in and went to hook up the power and it was a 120v. Bonehead mistake so then had to go buy a proper pump and had to redo the plumbing but got the job done and customer was happy.

Unfortunately it was a time consuming mistake but from now on I’ll check the power supply and not assume and for those who know what assume stands for know! I’m just glad that my customer is happy!

Last pool guy would just clean the pool and would not touch the equipment. Not sure why? But get to know your equipment if you are servicing your pool yourself and have at least someone to call when you have urgent questions.

Cleaned a new filter for the first time. Pentair clean and clear 60 cartridge filter. Most would go with a smaller filter size for a pool of their size but in this case bigger is better if you can afford it. If it’s a single cartridge I would recommend cleaning once a month high usage every two weeks and get an extra filter so you always have a clean one ready to put in while the other are being soaked if you clean them that way.

Homeowners had their pool finished about 1 year ago and had never had their filter or salt cell serviced. This is a large filter for the size pool they have so they can probably go about 10 months or so between filter cleans. Typically you won’t see a big pressure spike on the filter Gauge like a DE Filter but you may notice less pressure or flow from returns or features like in the picture.

They were experiencing reduced flow from then water feature and chlorine was not being produced efficiently. Salt Cells need to be cleaned every 3 months recommend my manufacture but I do it here about every 4.

Here are some pros and cons of a Cartridge Filter.

PROS
Removes smaller particles than sand filter (10 to 15 microns) (DE filter down to 3 to 4 microns more mess when cleaning tho).
Cuts energy costs by using lower pressure
Low impact on water chemistry

Cons
Not practical for larger commercial pools.
Initial purchase and maintenance costs higher due to cleaning frequency.
Cartridges need to be replaced about every 2 to 4 years

A little cheat sheet for pool owners. When We service your pool we do all of this for you.

During the summer months it is more important to brush and check the chemical levels/ make sure they are balanced.

If you are doing this yourself you can have your water tested at for free and they will recommend how to balance your water.

When you have phosphates in your pool this is what happens when you add phosphate remover.

I’ll be cleaning the filter in two days and cleaning the salt cell. They built the pool last year and haven’t done any maintenance to the equipment.

Salt cells need to be cleaned every 3 to 4 months.
Filters 2 times each year once before summer and once after Summer. More often if your pool gets a lot of use!

Happy Fourth of July!

If you have a salt water pool one of the most overlooked pieces of equipment is the cleaning of the salt cell.

The cell needs to be cleaned every 3 months to produce at the optimum level.

Ideal salt levels should be between 2700-3400ppm but consult unit specifications most common are and but there many others. Most cells will last if cleaned correctly between 2 to 7 years or more. Which is why cleaning them is so important.

If you have a heave use pool going with a larger unit would help you produce more chlorine. If you have any questions let me know.
