Wildfire season across the region runs late spring through early fall. By the end of it, the smell is in more than the air.
Smoke particles are small and oily, which is why they settle into soft surfaces and stay. Curtains, throw blankets, bedding, sofa covers, and the coats that hung by the door all season. You stop noticing it in your own house long before a guest does.
This is the month to run all of it, not just what you wear, but the things that have been quietly absorbing smoke for months. Wash on the warmest setting the label allows, and give it a full dry rather than a short one, because a half-dried heavy blanket holds the smell better than it holds anything else.
