I had never been to a dry cleaner in my life. First time ever — and I picked the one where you don’t have to talk to a single person.
CD One Price Cleaners in West Allis is completely self-serve. You stuff everything into a bag, drop it in the chute, and walk out. It’s open 24/7, so I went at a time that actually worked for me instead of racing to beat a 6pm close. Pickup is automated too — you enter your info at the kiosk and your order comes right out to you.
Then I got a look behind the scenes and I’m kind of obsessed. Every item gets barcoded so your order stays together, stains are treated by hand, and then it’s pressed, steamed and bagged — by a robot, which I watched happen and could not get over.
And the name isn’t a gimmick. It’s one price: $3 for any garment, dry cleaned and pressed. Wash & fold is $1.50/lb. 6 locations around the Milwaukee area.
