Road Closure Notice
Monday, July 27, 2026 – Friday, July 31, 2026
Dear Residents and Commuters,
Please be advised that Acquoni Road will be closed to through traffic from Monday, July 27, 2026, through Friday, July 31, 2026, to allow for utility installation within the roadway as part of the Acquoni Road Water & Sewer Improvement Project.
Closure Location
From 687 Acquoni Road to the entrance of Cherokee Boys Club Loop Road
Construction Schedule
Monday through Friday
8:15 AM – 8:00 PM (work may conclude earlier each day depending on progress and weather conditions).
Important Information
Please note that construction schedules are subject to delay due to weather conditions. Work may be rescheduled or extended if inclement weather impacts progress.
Local traffic will be accommodated whenever possible; however, temporary road closures may occur as work progresses.
A signed detour route will be in place using posted alternate routes.
Access to homes and businesses will be maintained, although temporary parking adjustments may be necessary.
Please obey all posted traffic signs, flaggers, and detour routes for your safety.
Motorists are encouraged to allow additional travel time and use extra caution when traveling near the work zone.
Residents may experience temporary water service interruptions during certain phases of construction. Advance notice will be provided whenever possible.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to improve the reliability of our community's water and sewer infrastructure.

Acquoni Road Water & Sewer Improvement Project Update:
Road Closure Update – Wednesday , July 22, 2026
The Cherokee Water & Sewer Department in coordination with Tribal Construction is pleased to announce that Acquoni Road will reopen to two-way traffic beginning at 4:30 today, until further notice. This delay is due to adverse weather conditions beyond our reasonable control.

Beginning this evening Wednesday July 22, the project site is projected to experience heavy rainfall, and flooding, which will create unsafe working conditions and prevent scheduled construction activities from proceeding. These weather conditions have affected critical project operations.

As a result, we anticipate a delay, and subject to any additional weather-related impacts or resulting schedule adjustments.

We are actively monitoring site conditions and will resume normal operations as soon as it is safe and practical to do so. We will continue to take reasonable measures to minimize the impact of this delay and will provide updates regarding any revisions to the project schedule.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of residents, businesses, and motorists throughout the construction activities, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this project may have caused. Please continue to use caution when traveling through the construction zone.

🚧‼️‼️Notice of Hydrant Flushing‼️‼️🚧

Starting Sunday July 19th Cherokee Water & Sewer Department will have a crew out doing our biannual Unidirectional Flushing Program during the hours of 8PM-6AM. The crew will be flushing the main waterlines Sunday night through Thursday mornings. This will continue until the entire distribution system is completed and helps The Cherokee Water & Sewer Department maintain quality water. Customers could experience low water pressure, possible discoloration, air in the lines, etc. If you have any questions or concerns, please call 828-359-6106.

The Cherokee Water & Sewer Department in coordination with Tribal Construction is pleased to announce that Acquoni Road will reopen to two-way traffic beginning at 4:00 p.m., (possibly sooner) today, Friday, July 17, 2026.
Tribal Construction will resume work on Monday morning beginning at 8:15 am, July 20, 2026.
Beginning Monday, July 20 through Friday, July 24, Acquoni Road will resume back to a full road closure through the construction zone.
We appreciate the patience and cooperation of residents, businesses, and motorists throughout the construction activities, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this project may have caused. Please continue to use caution when traveling through the construction zone.

⚠️⚠️ATTN: Cherokee water system Customers⚠️⚠️
Customers experienced a brief water outage due to a leak on the water main requiring the water main to be shut down. This water line repair caused little to no water. This is for customers on Greybeard Drive and Riley Ledford Drive(55-91 Grey beard dr & 8-26 Riley Ledford dr) on the Cherokee Water System.
55-91 Grey beard dr & 8-26 Riley Ledford dr on the Cherokee water system water main was shut down on 07/15/2026 at 10:00 pm for repairs. This led to a loss of pressure in the distribution system, which may cause backpressure, backsiphonage, or a net movement of water from outside the pipe to the inside through cracks, breaks, or joints in the distribution system that are common in all water systems.
This advisory will last up to 48 hours or until a notice has been given that it has been lifted. During a boil water Residents in affected areas should only ingest tap water after it’s been boiled for one minute or use bottled water. Only boiled tap water should be used for cooking, drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, watering pets or preparing food and infant formula.
Samples will be collected from multiple locations within the affected system and will be analyzed for any bacteria. We will monitor the presence of adequate disinfectant, residual, and maintenance of consistent pressure throughout the system.

The beginning of Jonathan rd to 160 Jonathan rd on the Cherokee water system water main was shut down on 07/15/2026 for repairs. This led to a loss of pressure in the distribution system, which may cause backpressure, backsiphonage, or a net movement of water from outside the pipe to the inside through cracks, breaks, or joints in the distribution system that are common in all water systems.
